Solace of the Winter Solstice

Linda Louise Johnson
Midway between the equinoxes

the sun seems to lock his

position in the sky

above the equator high

Standing still at the solstice

offering no solace

he'll move on to spring

while winter does its thing.

So now we shake and shiver

hibernate and wither

waiting for the longest night

to end and bring the light.

Very nice piece! I just wait for that longest night to pass. Happily counting the extra minutes of daylight each day now!

Hi, Linda! Thanks so much for checking out my Christmas Eve poem! The pantoum form is challenging but also very fun so I hope you give it a try. If you do, let me know and I'd love to see it!

As for this poem, I really love the beautiful descriptions that you use here. Great job!
