Summertime is here and that means hot, humid days and rising electric bills. We are always searching for ways to save money on groceries and utilities. I had heard about solar curtains but was not sure of how well they worked, so I decided to purchase several pairs for a large window in the living room.
The Solar curtains that we have up in our house are hanging on a large window in the living room and this is the side of our house, which receives the most direct sunlight especially in the afternoon. That first day of putting the solar curtains up, we could feel a difference in temperature inside the house and when we stood in front of the window
These are amazing little mirrored curtains will cut down on your electric bill during those hot, dog days of summer by reflecting the rays of the sun and will also help prevent heat loss during those cold, long days of winter. Another great aspect for using solar curtains is the fact that, I think that can even help to protect your furniture and carpets from becoming faded from the rays of the sun.
With solar curtains, you have privacy, which is a great thing. With these curtains up, you can see out, but it's hard for anyone to see in. They are so simple to hang too. We placed ours on a curtain rod and hung them up along with the regular curtains. I love these solar curtains and when you are outside, you cannot see inside of the house. Even when the sun is beaming down and the temp is over 100, the temperature inside is lowered by more than ten degrees!
When you stand right by the window where the solar curtain is hanging and place your hand right on the curtain, and the sun is shining in through the blinds, you cannot feel the heat coming in from the sun. I love these. They work great, worth the money. I bought mine for 4.00 for a 36 x 81 size out of a Harriet Carter catalog and prices start at 2.99 for size 36x63 up to 4.99 for the longest one, which is 36x81comes in different sizes for all windows/doors.
My husband and I are very pleased with our solar curtains. We purchased ours out of a Harriet Carter magazine.
I give these Solar Curtains 5 gold stars!
