Solo Back Packing

Jim Posey
In today's society people who enjoy going backpacking are few and far between. While every once in a while you might find someone who likes to take a stroll through nature, The vast majority of people only wish to spend as much time as possible with their television. This is a main reason why most backpackers are forced to go on solo trips into the wilderness. It can be very difficult to get people with your back camping style to join you on your trip into the wilderness.

Solo back packing gives you the ability to completely immerse yourself in the natural world. You will move at the beat of your own drum. No partner to get hungry or tired. It is you with the elements. You will feel a deeper connection as you realize that whether or not you live or die, are hungry or full, comfortable or hurt, matters only to you. Joining the irrelevance of the rest of nature can bring your whole life into perspective.

However there is very real change of danger associated with taking solo back packing trips. You are the only one there to rely on. However technology has come to rescue lonely nature lovers everywhere. The amount of technology that we have today turns disasters into minor inconveniences. The first thing that you should never enter the wilderness without is your GPS device. Set a landmark at your car. If you break an ankle, hit the locater beacon.

You should also have all the skills of an experienced outdoorsman before attempting to do a solo back packing trip. You must know how to make a fire and the ins and outs of water purification. Knowing how to survive without all of your fancy electronic gizmos will make you feel much more comfortable. It will also give you some insurance in case your devices stop working. You should also know what is safe to eat in the local area. Though food is not that big of a concern in most wildlife emergency situations, it will never hurt to be familiar with some edibles in your local area.

Solo back packing can give you a view of nature that you might have not experienced before. Being alone in the wilderness brings out a lot of who you are as a person. It is also a very volatile situation where if the proper precautions are not taken you will be left for dead. Take time to invest in technologies and skills that can keep you alive.
