Solutions for High Arches

If you have high arches and foot, leg, and/or back pain you may get relief from wearing the correct shoes. A lot of focus with shoes is on flat feet, wide feet, etc, but there are plenty of people who have the problem of high arches. To be sure you have high arches, cross your leg, hanging your foot down. Look at the arch, if it's a pronounced arc, you have a high arch, if it's a small arc your foot is probably normal.

If you have high arches, it is essential that you never, ever wear flats. If flats don't bother you now, they will ruin your feet in the long run. A small-medium heel is important for proper posture if you are having back problems too. There are high arch inserts to place in any type of shoe. Your best bet is to buy the firmest insert you can find, otherwise it will flatten out quickly.

Better than an insert, is to buy the best shoe for your feet. Personally, I have a very high arch and I would not be able to walk for long without my Danskos. Dansko is the single best shoe brand for this problem. The arch is high and solid, the bottom base is actually a wedge but it raises in the back to about 2.5 inches. I am refering to the closed clog or some of the more recent similar styles that are more stylish but still have that Dansko arch. To see their shoes and the specs on each one, go to Dansko.com.

I buy a lot of my Dansko shoes on Ebay, since they are a bit expensive, about 140 and up retail. However, when I was having bad leg and knee trouble, I wore the same Dansko proffesional clog everyday for at least a year. Those shoes really saved me.

There are other brands out there that have high arches but I would only recommend Dansko. Dansko originally made clog shoes for proffesionals who must be on their feet all day, such as nurses and chefs. Now they make all kinds of shoes, but the best is still the proffesional clog. The occupational shoes are good too, especially if you want more style or change.

These shoes may be the most comfortable and supportive shoes you will find, so try them out.
