Solutions to Simple and Common Hair Problems

Have you ever found yourself using too much hairspray, and before you know it, you get that icky white build up on your hair and it wont come off, or maybe you have completely ruined your hair and it is nothing but a fuzzy dry mess? Then read on and learn how to take care of these problems with simple at home products. I have worked at a hair salon for six years and while working here, I have learned about certain tricks that will help with simple and common hair problems.

One hair problem that I find happens a lot, mostly in the elderly and older women is the problem of hairspray buildup that will not come off. Many women only shampoo their hair once a week and within that week they spray hairspray on their hair everyday. I have tried many things to help this problem; between clarifying shampoo and shampooing over and over again, the best thing I found is using baking soda. It's very simple, just fill up a cup about 1/8 of the way with baking soda and the rest with water and pour it over the hair, rub it through a little bit and then rinse. Make sure that you do this before you shampoo the hair, because you will want to wash the baking soda off. This does not need to be done every day, as it can dry out the hair if used too often. It's better to use it only when needed, if you are a weekly washer than once a week will do.

Uh oh, you just permed your hair yourself and completely ruined it. Originally, you wanted beautiful curls that are bouncy and shiny, what you have now is a mess of dry brittle hair that breaks off with the slightest touch. Don't freak out, take a deep breath and realize that there are things that may help. While there are no quick fixes to this problem, there are ways to help make the hair feel better and appear softer. First thing to do is make a conditioner concoction, which is basically mixing together two types of conditioners with an oil. It is better to use good product for this. First, you will need a regular conditioner, any name brand of conditioner will do. Second, you will need a thick hair mask, which is basically a thick conditioner made for extremely dry brittle hair, I recommend Matrix brand Biolage Conditioning Balm. Thirdly, you will need an oil, I recommend the Chi oil. Mix these all together in a bowl, put the mixture on your hair making sure to completely cover all the hair. In the bathroom wet a towel large enough to wrap your hair up in around your head in hot water. After covering hair in mixture, wrap hair up in the hot towel. Leave on your head until the towel is completely cooled. Remove the towel and repeat the precess, do this about three times. The mixture can get a little pricey when purchasing the conditioners and oil, so to opt for a more affordable and home remedy, use regular conditioner and a little olive oil, mix together and do the same process with the towel. When done with the process make sure to rinse the hair well, the hair may feel a little greasy, so if it is too greasy run a little shampoo through the hair. This will not fix the problem, but it will help. The best thing to do in a situation where your hair is over processed is to keep conditioning your hair and keep up on the monthly hair cuts, because unfortunately once hair is ruined it doesn't go back, you just have to condition it and cut it off.

Do you like to have a few highlights in your hair, but don't have the money to go and pay for them? Then if you have naturally light hair lemon will do the trick. Simply cut a lemon and squeeze the juice on your hair before going out in the sun. The sun and the lemon will help lighten the color of your hair. This only works on hair that is already light, for example between a light blond to a light brown, any other color may turn to an orange tone.

Working at a salon for 6 years, I have come to realize that a woman's hair is a woman's life. No matter how much money someone makes, we women take our hair very seriously, products can get pricey and it's just good to know that there are other options to turn to, options that we can find at home.
