PuppetShow: Souls of the Innocent is primarily a hidden object game, however, it provides much more in terms of gameplay. Like any typical hidden object game, a shopping list of objects is provided in areas such as rooms, and each object must be located in order for other areas to become available for investigation. While some objects are strategically hidden in plain sight amongst an array of colors and patterns, others must be revealed by clicking curious looking hot spots, by opening drawers, searching cabinets, and more. Some objects on the list prove to be special objects once found, and are known in the game as tools. Tools are basically objects on the list that ultimately prove to beneficial elsewhere, such as a key that is used for unlocking a door elsewhere in the game. Puzzles found throughout the game must be completed for advancement, and although they provide an entertaining challenge, they aren't overly difficult to solve.
Much like its predecessor, Puppet show: Souls of the Innocent allows gameplay in various modes that cater to both new and experienced gamers. At the title's start, players have the choice of playing in regular mode or expert mode. Anyone new to this style of game will have an enjoyable time beginning in regular mode, which assists in identifying scenery hot-spots with hover-over hints, and by taking advantage of an in-game tutorial that shows the ins and outs of navigation, finding objects, and using the tools. In expert mode, active hot-spots are not indicated on screen with assistance, making the game a bit more challenging. A timed rechargeable hint button is also available to all users in the event an object is simply too tricky to find.
Like the first game in the series, the visuals in Souls of the Innocent are absolutely stunning. Static imagery beautifies each scene which is then creatively brought to life with subtle animations. Gameplay is complicated by top notch art work that masterfully hides objects in unique and strategic camouflaged ways.
PuppetShow: Souls of the Innocent provides hours of gameplay for gamers of varying age and skill level, and is available online at Big Fish Games.
