Solyndra Initiates "Solargate"

Lorraine Yapps Cohen

Watergate brought Nixon down. Climategate exposed the hoax of global warming. Now there's Solargate, a potential ax in the Obama presidency.

Solyndra insolvent from start
Little more than a week ago, Solyndra closed its doors to 1,100 California employees. The brand new multimillion dollar Fremont facility found funds from a $535 million federal loan guarantee. The company was to make solar panels there, but not any more. Solyndra goes belly up, leaving taxpayers last in the lineup of creditors to repay.

Okay, companies go belly up all the time. Especially in California, where "green" is the theme, but nothing more. But when the FBI burst onto the Solyndra scene without warning, everybody knew something was up besides more unemployment.

Born to fail
A contractor called in to a radio talk show that day. I happened to be listening to hear the caller's comments. He said he built parts of Solyndra's new building. It was chock full of automated technology for robotic manufacturing of Solyndra's solar panels at enormous expense, which duplicated the output capacity of the old facility but didn't need nearly as many people. For the new facility to be touted as creating "green" jobs was a big stretch by anybody's imagination.

Another caller to the show was a Solyndra employee. She got the ax that day too, finding her employer in bankruptcy. But it was no surprise; she said it was rather expected. She was hired more than a year before, knowing full well that Solyndra was headed for an aborted take-off as a business.

Jobs speech
It was the next day when jobs creation constituted the topic of Obama's speech to the nation. He would spend even more money he doesn't have in the creation of a jobs committee of one bureaucratic sort or another. A look at how jobs evaporated at Solyndra to the tune of 535 million taxpayer dollars would serve as a model for how it's NOT done.

Push to pass
Now, we notice that gigantic loan guarantee was expedited--shall we say pushed through--the OMB (Office of Management and Budget). This, after the Energy Department summarily approved the loan to start. The White House denies any influence in pushing the loan through OMB. What are they going to say, "yeah, The Boss told us to 'make it happen'?"

Solargate takes shape
No such disclosures are needed for astute Americans observing the debacle unfolding before our eyes. We observed Obama's visits to Solyndra and other "green" firms that sold no products nor generated revenues. We observed his praise of such businesses. We observed Obama's employment of "green" for funding crony capitalists and his wealth redistribution agenda at taxpayer expense.

This, ladies and gentlemen, is Solargate, the exposure of "green" government corruption at the worst and fodder for removing Obama from office at the best.

A special prosecutor could be appointed to investigate possible criminal elements of this situation. This is a huge story and most interesting to follow! rcj

Just when we thought we could get through without another political scandal... Great report, Lorraine. I will be paying close attention to this as it unfolds.

Anthony, Obama administration KNEW Solyndra wouldn't make it. China was making the same solar panels at less cost. Admin threw $535 million taxpayer dollars in its direction anyway. THAT is the scandalous injustice of it all. And then, we're fed the line that it was Solyndra's mismanagement. Are Americans stupid, or what?

Nice job.... especially the part where a new employee walks in off the street and knows immediately more than the Obama administration knew about Solyndra's capacity for survival.

    thanks for this update Lorraine

Sad they did not manage things well at this company. .

Hey girlfriend, Why is Obama "corrupt" because of Solyndra's faulty management? It would have required more government jobs to constantly supervise them, and then you would still complain. It's like I gave my son money to fix his roof and he bought a plasma TV instead.... Reminds me of the saying..."No good deed goes unpunished." I hope Solyndra gets sued.

This is tragic! We need to pray for Obama and for a Christian president in the future!
