Some of the Best Christmas Ornaments for Kids

Paula Andra
With a son who just loves the Gators, Super Man and sports in general, I got familiar with sports and popular culture Christmas ornaments. In my youth, it was angels, stars, snowmen, reindeer and nativity ornaments. Each generation likes to create its own traditions.

For this article I chose a wide variety of themes since not all kids are alike nor do they all like the same thing. But I selected websites that offer a wide range in their selections with some unique and quality options:

Oriental Trading:

I get their catalog, sometimes, in the mail. It's fun to flip through. Most items are offered in dozen lots from $3.99-$14.99 per lot. They offer a huge selection both readi-made ornaments for both kids and adults and ornament kits in both secular/traditional and Christian themes, such as snowmen, snowflakes and the nativity.
The selections are in a range if differing materials, styles and age orientation.
The ornament kits would make great holiday projects for children of various ages during the Christmas holiday season.

Hooked on Hallmark:

The 2009 Hallmark ornaments are priced in a range from $11.00-$74.95. But most of the items are under $20.00. They feature popular cartoon, storybook, comic superheros and popular culture favorites such as Barbie, Winnie the Poo, Disney characters, Peanuts, popular TV program and movie characters, Hannah Montana and the Jonas Brothers.

OrnamentShop:

This website has a huge selection of almost every kind of sport such as ballet, baseball, basketball, biking, billiards, boating, bowling, boxing, cheer-leading, coaching, equestrian, fitness, field hockey, fishing, football, golf, gymnastics, hiking, hockey, hunting, karate, kayaking, lacrosse, scuba, soccer, skating, snow skiing, snowboarding, snowmobiling, softball, tennis, track, volleyball, water sports and wrestling. These aren't major label or team licensed ornaments. They're unique proprietary ornaments. The ornaments are also personalized.

Most of the prices range from just below $10.00 to a bit above $10.00. There's a wide selection to choose from, although some sports offer more than others.

DogGoneGlamorous:

For that special someone who just loves dogs, these figurines are really nice. They're cast from original hand-carvings and hand painted for $22.50 each plus shipping and for an extra $15.00 they can be custom painted to look like your dog. Most dog breeds are available and they do invite special requests, since some of the rarer breeds may be in stock but not offered on the website.

The Woodland Gallery:

For the wild animal lover this would be a wonderful ornament. Each ornament is hand-painted on a glass globe to order. There are 38 different animals and birds represented, for $15.00 each. You can choose from: Ermine, chickadee, goldfinch, raccoon, cardinal, wolf, oriole, grey squirrel, blue jay, red fox, wood duck, grizzly bear, indigo bunting, black bear, titmouse, doe, bald eagle, snowshoe hare, hummingbird, swan, Canadian goose, penguins, polar bear, owl, snowy egret, coyote, chipmunk, loon, red squirrel, nuthatch, deer mouse, dove, bluebird, rabbit, mourning dove, robin, woodpecker and kingfisher.

I planned to teach college art in studio & history. But I needed to home school our son and did short term missions instead, which benefited from my education. I write about the trips I take for our ministry.  View profile
