Some of the Funniest Kids on Television

Even "Cartoon Kids" Can Make Us Laugh

Gary Davis
Historically kids have been funny on television. They can get away with more and they often have a better way of delivering the lines than adults do.

To my way of thinking the funniest kid on television is Bart Simpson from "The Simpsons." He has coined phrases such as "Butt-man" and "Eat My Shorts" that are well-known. He is disrespectful and yet if he conquers a foe he is almost sorry that the competition is no longer there.

Bart Simpson is the kid we all wanted to be like but were afraid to be like. He is larger than life and I imagine part of it has something to do with the fact he is a cartoon yet that just gives the writers more leeway.

My next choice for a funny kid is another cartoon kid but he is funny for different reasons. Bobby King of "King of the Hill" is a kid that would be considered a nerd except that he has a heart of gold and he just asks honest questions. That is what is funny. His dad Hank has his own ideas about what is "hip" about being a man and is routinely being disappointed by Bobby's lack of correct action.

For example, Hank played sports and Bobby wants to be a mascot. He is a funny kid.

Malcom from "Malcom in the Middle" is the middle child and further he has a high I.Q. He talks to the camera about what is going on and creates a running commentary about his family who are not the smartest people in the world.

I would be remiss to leave out Kelly Bundy from "Married with Children" even though the sitcom is over. It is on somewhere at all times it is still so popular.

Kelly Bundy was a tramp when the show began but later she tried to "clean up her act" but she just wasn't smart enough. Her looks and minimal responses would crack me up.

Christina Applegate was a brilliant actress. I recall a scene where neighbor Marcy is talking about her dead aunt's ashes on her mantle...where Kelly has just stolen them for Al's grill. Applegate's response is classic as she hears and digests the news.

I hate to say this but I think that "Hannah Montana" is a very funny show. Miley Cyrus plays a girl who is a regular girl by day and a rock star at night which she keeps secret. What makes the situation so funny is the interaction between her and her friends.

There are so many good and funny kids it is hard to bring them all up but these characters are just that-characters
