Some Good Interview Questions

Some Things I've Been Asked, and Would Ask

Peter Flom
If you don't know how to do something, what would you do?

You'll probably want to change "something" into something more specific to the job. But nearly every job involves some tasks that the applicant will not know how to do. He or she will need to figure out how to do them. Will he or she ask a supervisor? A colleague? Research on the 'net? Look at a book?

If your supervisor is absent what would you do?

People get sick and miss work, including supervisors. What do the employees do then?

What is the most difficult thing you have ever done?

How does the person exert himself or herself? Is this going to match with the other people at your place of employment?

Do you have any questions for me?

They really OUGHT to. But what questions will they present to you?

I only WISH people would ask logical questions like this at job interviews. The questions they DO ask are really dumb.

Therein lies the skill, Peter - saying what you will do convincingly!

That should have been "giving away".

Sometimes the most difficult thing a person has done might be something they're not good at and you really want to hire them for something that comes more easily to them. Just sayin...
I was always interested in what the applicant knows about the company they are applying to (and the job they are apply for). It's somewhat sad how little correlation there is between grades today and ability; at least that is what I found as an engineering manager. Schools are gingin away grades like candy; a 4.00 GPA is a LOW mark any more!

    Donna Donna Donna.....

OF COURSE that's what you do! :-). But what do you SAY you'll do?

Hey! As a consultant, I work for me!
