In order to stay healthy and fit, you should follow a few simple rules.

1. Exercise, daily if possible. Do aerobic exercise as well as strength training.

2. Eat a healthy, balanced diet. Eat fresh foods more than already prepared foods. Add fresh veggies and fruits to your day, every day.

3. Limit stress in your day. Try to relax and not allow stress to take over your body.

Simple, right? Well for some it isn't as easy as it sounds.

Increasing your metabolism is something that many desire to achieve. Here are some easy, helpful tips to help that process along.

1. Do at least a thirty minutes of cardiovascular exercise each day or at least five days a week. Add strength training to that for a total of at least forty five minutes a day. Walking is a great exercise you can do and you don't even need to join a gym. Biking, hiking, playing tennis or basketball all fall into the cardiovascular exercise category.

2. Eat six small meals a day. Eat every three hours. This will keep your blood sugars regulated. Snack on raw vegetables or fruit between meals. Constant grazing is easy for some to do and will keep you eating little amounts all day long.

3. Drink plenty of water. Try to drink half your body weight in water. That isn't as hard to do as you might think. Drink a full glass of water before each meal and after each meal. This also helps you to stay full longer. Many people do not even realize that they are walking the Earth in a chronic state of dehydration. That is not a healthy thing. Do not substitue something for water either. Drinking diet sodas are not a substitute for water. Your body needs fresh, clean water each day.

4. Stay away from sugar, fruit juices, potatoes, white rice, white bread. Try to eat lower glycemic index foods. These high glycemic index foods spike blood glucose levels as well as insulin levels. Limit your carbohydrates each meal as well. Split your plate into three section. One larger section, one medium section and one smaller section. Put your protein, or meat or fish in the largest section. Veggies go in the medium section and grains go in the smaller section. It is easy to get carried away with the side items such as rice, mashed potatoes or pasta so keep in mind that the smaller section will be for that. No seconds either.

5. Do not eat fat free all the time. Your body does need a certain amount of fat. Fat helps to keep you feeling full longer as well so you won't eat nearly as much. Good fats can help you to burn fat too. Eating fat free meals usually will not fill you up enough to hold you until the next meal and that sometimes means that you will eat junk food or other foods that you wouldn't have normally chosen had you been fuller longer.

It isn't that hard to stay healthy and fit. Increasing your metabolism will help you to eat properly, lose weight and than regulate your weight once you have reached your goal. Keeping in mind always that you do not have to do without your favorite foods is important. Treat yourself once a week with something that you love. If it is dessert that you love, share it with someone and limit your amount. If it is mashed potatoes, try mashed sweet potatoes. If you just love Chinese fried rice, try to make your own version at home and load it up with fresh vegetables. Add an egg for some added protein.

There are many ways to keep your metabolism increased. Keeping with the simple few tips that I have given here, and you will see changes. Your health isn't indispensable so become proactive and feel better about yourself.
