Setting a Budget and making a list of the items we plan to purchase to avoid impulse buying are important. No one likes to regret doing something they really did not intend to do. And this is what often happens when we do not plan our budget and discipline ourselves to abide by those decisions. When we just drift into impulse buying while shopping rather than shopping base on our budget, is not helping us and is often seen as poor financial management and spending. To see a bargain and not letting it pass us by is not the same as impulse buying. Impulse buying is more like spending without good reasoning and discipline base on just anything that my attract us or what we are persuaded to buy, but really do not want or need. So we need to avoid this.
We are never to use our credit card (or debit card) irresponsibly by charging too much or more than we can afford when shopping. Christmas holiday shopping, for example, can often get out of hand if we are not disciplined. Some of us will have large families or a good friend we must get a gift for and that is normal conscious behavior. But even so, we need to remember to control our spending within the limit of what we can really afford. Come January in the New Year, for example, we will have to repay all that we over spend. So if we know this we can be conscious of our credit card spending and control the amount we are borrowing to repay later. This is not easy for some, especially in this holiday season, but is essential for all of us to do.
Another very important reminder is that we are avoid (as much as possible) carrying our personal security information like the social security number that we use in America, or even the credit card that we use everywhere. By putting these in our wallets or purses we are placing ourselves at some risk for theft if we are not very, very careful about protecting them. It is sometime not realistic to ask us to leave our personal security information at home where they will be safer, but sometimes that is just what we have to do, except maybe for the credit or debit card that we have to use while shopping. In all cases, taking extra steps to protect whatever essential personal documents we have is a must!
Sometimes we make a purchase and then discover that the product is defective, for example, and so it must be returned. Then we discover that no return is allowed. This is when the store or place from which we bought the item has a no return policy that we only just discover on our attempt to return the defective product. So we need to find out the return policy and refund in advance of our purchases. It is just too late if we do not know this for ourselves before, and then are disappointed when we have to carry-out this action later. This same precaution applies to delivery costs and times.
The internet can be a very good tool to use to compare prices in different but similar stores that offer the products or services we are looking for. If possible, at home we can take some meaningful time to do our own personal investigations to discover for ourselves the best deals and then go into the stores for the best pre-selected items. This procedure often reduces stress and disappointments later. And it helps to avoid dishonest advertisements that try to lure us into places or stores that really do not have the bargains they are advertising.
To make sure we always check and recheck our receipts and cash after (and before) a transaction in stores or even online, is very essential. Do not walk all the way to the car park, train station or bus stop, for examples, and then decide to check. You make not get the fair opportunity to resolve a mistake made by the store or cashier. So check and recheck at the cashier counter inside the store before you leave. This point is too important to forget, so we must always be conscious of its importance.
These are just some of the essential holiday tips or advice that we all need to remember. While we all desire to enjoy the holidays and our shopping, we still must be responsible in doing so. There are other tips that we will remember, but these are very important for all of us to know.
