Some Important Ways to Avoid Spammers

Terry Dee
Have you been one of those people who thought that when you received an unsolicited e-mail and clicked on the link that gave you the option to remove your e-mail address that this option would work? Think again. The best thing to do is not to reply to these e-mails and to just delete them. Unless it is a reputable company, most of these sources use this remove e-mail option as a means to validate your e-mail address, and place your e-mail address on a list. This is when you notice more unwanted e-mails that you receive.

The best thing to do is to be cautious about sharing your e-mail address, particularly on blogs, and web sites. The reason for this is that people can get your e-mail address and you get more unsolicited e-mail that you didn't intend.

Some tips on how to avoid this:

1. Use one e-mail address strictly for family and friends;
2. For business, it is recommended that you have a separate e-mail address;
3. And, it is wise to get a separate e-mail address for anything to do with promotions, contests, and that you know will be used for marketing by other companies. This is what I refer to as my, "junk e-mail address." Yes, if a family member or friend is with you, they'll probably say, "That's not the e-mail address that I know you by." But, just explain to them that you use this as a separate e-mail address for avoiding unsolicited e-mails;
4. Make sure that you have a firewall and that you keep your software and anti-spyware updated;
5. Avoid forwards and chain letters. When you do forwards, all the e-mail addresses that you send the forward to, are displayed, and this has a greater chance of getting on an e-mail list and where you can also get unsolicited e-mails.

These are some quick tips on how you can stop junk e-mail.
