My friends call me Google
Somewhere along the way, I have picked up all kinds of useless trivia that my friends have managed to pry from me. They are so amazed by my store of insignificant facts that I am referred to by that famous name.
One of my childhood hobbies was collecting old TV Guides
When I was a kid, I collected old copies of the magazine, TV Guide, as well as the TV guides that came in the Sunday paper. I'm not sure how, and what the reason was for starting the collection, but my parents were not as unhappy about this hobby as they were about my collection of colored plastic spoons. Within a few months, I had hundreds of weekly guides from 50 cities, dating back almost twenty years. Unfortunately, the collection is lost.
I have lived in, or visited 35 states and two Canadian provinces
Illinois is where I was born, but seven other states and the province of Ontario, Canada have been home, as well. My job has afforded me the ability to travel, so I have visited 27 other states and another Canadian province.
Tunnels are really scary
Tunnels frighten me, to the point of phobia. As a child, my family traveled by car for vacations, and we were sure to go through at least one or two of them. Just being near one was enough to cause me to scream bloody murder. The long, dark ones were especially creepy! Now that I am an adult, I have more self-control so that only the smallest of whimpers escapes from my lips when the open maw of a tunnel draws near.
I wheeled from Philadelphia to Washington, DC
You did not think that I would write an article and not include a disability-related interesting fact, did you? I was one of 120 members of ADAPT who rode our wheelchairs from Philadelphia to Washington, DC to bring awareness of a piece of legislation that would mandate home and community-based care for people with disabilities. 90 more ADAPT folks joined us in Baltimore. For those of us starting out in Philadelphia, the trip took two weeks. We wheeled along highways in Pennsylvania, Delaware, Maryland, and Washington, DC, traveling an average of a little over 10 miles per day. We camped out in some interesting places including church parking lots, the Delaware State Troopers headquarters, and an ice skating ring in Baltimore.
