First aid measures against stains:
1. Act immediately. The more quickly you treat a spot, the better your chances are of removing it completely.
2. Place the dirty garment on a clean blanket.
3. Dab the stain with a soft clothe or paper towel, dab carefully, do not rub.
4. Always move from the outside in to prevent remaining rings.
5. If you use a stain remover, first test its effect on an unobtrusive part of the clothing item.
6. Blow- dry the treated, wet area to avoid edges.
7. If necessary, use a universal detergent and/or a bleach alternative to remove the stain completely.
The 'emergency pharmacy':
* soda water
* rubbing alcohol
* buttermilk
* corn starch
* universal detergent
* bleach alternative
* dish washing liquid
* turpentine
And these are techniques that commonly help with certain kinds of stains:
Coke:
Wash out the spot with tepid water. Don't use hot water because this sets many stains. Apply liquid detergent on the spot and then wash the garment regularly. If necessary, use a liquid detergent with bleach alternative.
Red wine:
Using salt, the well-known trick, is not always the best: Better is to pretreat the material with universal detergent (without chlorine) and then to put the clothe into the washing machine. Add detergent, which contains bleach alternative.
Carrot juice:
Buttermilk or soda water really help in this case!
Ice:
Rinse out the piece of clothing with cold water, then pretreat it with liquid universal detergent, finally wash it regularly.
Fruit:
Soak the stained clothe in buttermilk. Then rinse it out and finally wash it regularly with bleach alternative.
Grease:
A grease stain is quite easy to remove with corn starch. Strew the affected spot and let it soak at least one hour. Afterwards the flour can simply be brushed off with the stain.
The best solution in this case is to remove the spot with rubbing alcohol. Dab the area carefully with a soft tissue.
Lipstick:
You can remove lipstick with rubbing alcohol or turpentine.
Face powder:
Brush off the face powder with a soft brush. If this does not help, dab the spot carefully with rubbing alcohol or turpentine.
Mascara:
Simply wash it out with warm water and liquid detergent or dish washing liquid.
Pollen:
Just apply a scotch tape on the spot, the pollen will stick to it. Then pretreat the remaining stain with liquid detergent and wash the clothe with a mild bleach alternative in the washing machine.
Grass:
You may either soak the stained garment in buttermilk or wash it out with normal milk. Or strew it with baking powder, moisten it and let it soak a few hours. Another possibility is to pretreat the stain with liquid detergent and to wash the fabric afterwards with a mild universal detergent.
Blood:
Cold water is the best solution of all for this kind of stain. Afterwards wash the garment with a warm detergent solution.
Soda water or a soapy solution is oftentimes all that you need to remove a stain. With the tools and methods that are described above you should be able to remove also the most stubborn stains!
