Some Say We Don't Need God Anymore

In the America today there is a belief growing that says we don't need God to help us get along in life. To my way of thinking a belief like this is a tragedy. Religion, the gospel, is the foundation of our country. The disciplines and freedoms that have made America great were born out of the Judeo Christian ethic found in the Bible. Whether they're a believer or not, every decent individual, is following this ethical way of life. Some of you may baulk at that statement, but I believe it's the truth. In Romans, chapter 2, verse 14 it says, " When Gentiles who have not the law do by nature what the law requires, they are a law unto themselves, even though they do not have the law. They show that what the law requires is written on their hearts, while their conscience also bears witness and their conflicting thoughts accuse or perhaps excuse them on that day when according to my gospel, God judges the secrets of men by Christ Jesus."

What Paul is saying is that those who know nothing of the law and still act according to the law have it written on their hearts. They may have secret conflicting thoughts but they will be judged by the standard Christ has set for mankind just as the Jews, who have the law, will be judged. All the good and decent things in this world are prompted by Gods' Holy Spirit in all his children whether they believe at this time or not.

I'm not a historian, but I believe that the great civilizations in history self destructed because of the lack moral character, integrity, the quest for power, a wish to rule the known world. Their people were over taxed and abused, forced to live with less while the leaders lived with more. This type of behavior will ultimately end in a bad way wherever it becomes normal behavior. There is a constant conflict in man; Galatians. 5:17 says

" For the desires of the flesh are against the Spirit, and the desires of the Spirit are against the flesh; for these are opposed to each other, to prevent you from doing what you would."

Mankind left to his own instincts will eventually self destruct because he is inherently selfish and greedy among other things. In Matthew, chapter 7, verses 24 - 27 Jesus says,

" Everyone then who hears these words of mine and does them will be like a wise man who built his house upon the rock; the rain fell and the floods came, and the winds blew and beat upon that house, but it did not fall, because it had been founded on the rock. And everyone who hears these words of mine and does not do them will be like a foolish man who built his house upon the sand; the rain fell and the floods came, and the winds blew and beat against that house, and it fell; and great was the fall of it."

Every structure whether it's a building, a business or a nation must be built on a solid foundation. The strongest foundation must be built with the best material available. When it comes to a nation, the best material to be used for it's foundation is the gospel, the principals and disciplines it brings to the table will ensure that it is compassionate to others, allows freedoms for it's people, protects and aids the weak, has integrity and honesty as it's motto, seeks to maintain equality for all it's people but rewards those who rise above the rest. America, as it once was, would be a perfect example.

We who grew so tall, reached so far and meant so much to mankind did so because we built our house on a solid foundation. Being blessed by Heavenly Father brought us to the front and kept us there. I believe God gave many of our leaders insight and wisdom in their choices. He kept them humbled and focused on the light so their interests didn't become self indulgent but remained focused on what was best for their constituents. The people had confidence in their representatives and could get to the business of helping their families and their friends succeed. Think about America today and you decide whether or not we need God involved in our lives.
