Some Tips to Stop that Annoying Persistent Cough

When you have a cold, allergy or worse yet, bronchitis you may also have an annoying, nagging cough. A cough can be an occasional thing or it become continuous, especially when you are trying to talk or eat.

When these types of cough occurs, you want to find something quick to stop them. First, you probably will reach for the tradition medicines; the cold pills and the cough drops. These may work. But when they refuse to work and you want to try something different try some of these methods, too.

1. Take a hot shower. Make it a long one and breathe in the steam. It will help to moisturize your throat.

2. Raise your head, especially while sleeping.

3. Do not over do it on the cough medicine. Taking too much of it can cause a drying effect. Instead try hard candy. It will moisturize your throat and mouth.

4. Drink more liquids. They will also help to break up any mucous in your system making your cough more productive.

5. Use a vaporizer while sleeping.

6. Do you like hot foods? Try eating some spicy foods now to help break up that mucous.

7. Drinking tea is always a favorite choice, especially when one has a cough and a cold. This tea will help open your airways and moisturize your throat.

8. Stop smoking and stay away from other smokers. The smoke will dry your throat more causing you to cough more.

9. Take some vitamins, especially A, C and E.

10. Stay away from diary products, they help produce mucous.

11. Rub Vicks salve or eucalyptus oil onto your chest to help break up the mucous more.

12. Put lavender or jasmine oil in an oil burner and burn. You can even apply it to your bed pillow to breathe as you are sleeping and onto a handkerchief to breathe into throughout the day.

13. Peppermint candy and teas are also very good at helping to stop ones cough.

14. Try mixing a bit t of honey to carrot juice. Then drink a few sips of this throughout the day.

25. Of course, chamomile tea and grape juice with a dash of honey are also good drinks to sip on while you have a cough.

Remember a cough isn't just an annoyance. It can be a sign that something is seriously wrong, especially if it is ongoing. Then you should see a doctor.

You may also want to see a doctor if you notice any of these signs which could be indication of the following conditions.

A barking cough could mean you have bronchitis.

A high pitched cough could mean you are having problems with a narrowing of your airways.

A wheezing cough could mean you are suffering from either asthma or bronchitis.

A loud gasping cough and trouble taking in air could mean you are suffering from the whopping cough.

If you are having any of the above types of cough on an ongoing basis, please seek medical attention.
