Some Troops May Be Coming Home

Andrew Berry
War, tt's a horrible event to endure, especially since wars are so lengthy and are filled with nothing but violence, bloodshed, and fear. Thankfully, some troops may be coming sooner than we think. Defense Secretary Robert Gates has told the media that the Bush Administration is looking into and weighing Iraq's political progress. If Iraq's political progress has gotten better, we may seem some of our brave troops finally returning home after all.

What Defense Secretary Robert Gates exactly said is as followed:

"Our commitment to Iraq is long-term, but it is not a commitment to have our young men and women patrolling Iraq's streets open-endedly." (Defense Secretary Robert Gates to Iraq and U.S. reporters. Source: Newsday)

United States soldiers, as of right now, are also building a wall to protect a about three-miles long to protect a Sunni Arab area that is surrounded by violent neighborhoods. The Sunni community will be gated, according to Newsday.

Despite the positive outlook on our troops in Iraq, and violence slowly decreasing, violence is still among our troop's day in and day out. In war, there is no exact "safe zone", every foot is still proclaimed dangerous, especially when you're on the enemy's home front. Danger is simply around every corner, and one must watch every single step they take, as it may be their last.

United States military personnel also have, according to Newsday, found foreign chemicals when searching buildings, which seem to be materials used to make bombs and other possible explosives. This, of course, may have saved many lives in the long run of many soldiers, as well as Iraqi civilians.

Iraqi police personnel also found twenty-six heavily shot and tortured bodies on Friday, which definitely shows us that violence is still among the Iraq nation, whether it's against United States military personnel or Iraqi civilians.

Although the United States military personnel are still having major problems, the problems in Iraq area being worked on, and are getting better with time. People whom were once scared to say they believed in democracy came out and said they wanted that kind of government. Plenty of Iraqi people went to vote for the first time in their nation, only proving that there has been substantial improvement. But with change comes controversy, especially with such a large sum of people in a violent area such as Iraq itself. Hopefully the end is near, and we can finally greet our young, brave men and women back home, with arms wide open.

I can't wait until this war is over, and I am just so thankful my husband hasn't had to go over there yet.
