So this season be sure to take some time to relax and enjoy the beauty and the treasures of the season. There is so much to enjoy and so much to behold.
1. An Extra Hour of Daylight. Daylight Savings Time began March 11th. We now have an extra hour of daylight. This makes our evenings more sunny, and the drive home from work is more cheery as we are doing it in the light instead of in the dark. Things feel less gloomy and more hopeful. So be sure to take advantage of this, take a walk after work or work in your garden. Get out there and enjoy the sunshine!
2. Blooms and Buds. You know it is spring when you see the tips of the crocuses peeking through the earth. Yellow, purple and white -- they are all my favorites. The crocus, and many other flowers are one of the first signs of spring. Soon the grass will be full of beautiful blooming flowers of many colors. Hello seasonal allergies!
3. Robins. There is a saying -- of course I can't remember who said it. But that when you see your first robin, you know that spring has truly begun. The day I watched eight big, fat robins hopping all over my front lawn as they made their way over the snow patched ground was a very happy day. Although there was still some snow on the ground and it was cold enough to still need a jacket, with those robins in full view I knew that spring was well on its way. That's a good thing.
4. Sunglasses. People start wearing sunglasses in spring and keep them on until just after Labor Day. You'll see them around town, on the freeway and in the stores. More sun means the reason and need to wear sunglasses. Its not all about looking cool.
5. Outdoor Sports. For many, spring means it is time to play outdoor sports -- like tennis, golf or soccer. There are some hardcore jocks who will run in a hailstorm. But for many regular folks, nice weather means it is time to take the exercise routine out of doors. So go for a walk!
6. Kids with Lemonade Stands. When kids start selling lemonade, you know it is spring. Usually it is twenty five cents for a glass, sometimes they boost the prices to fifty cents a glass. But it is terrific to make a kid smile and you never know what future entrepreneur you are supporting now.
7. Iced Tea. I know it is spring when the iced tea pitcher comes out of the closet and goes into the refrigerator. In our house it stays there pretty much until the end of September. Iced tea is a great spring and summer treat.
8. Kids at the Park. The town parks in spring are full of children in springtime. Every swingset is full and the slide is so popular. This is a great time and season to be at play.
9. Pretty Spring Clothes. Our wardrobe changes in the springtime. More pastel shades and what some call "ice cream colors". Spring clothes are pretty, flirty and fun.
Enjoy all of the fun and beauty that spring has to offer. Happy Spring!
