Some of the World's Most Dangerous Sports

Rugby is quite possibly the most brutal sport known to man. Many of us are familiar with the sights and sounds of an NFL football game, but when it comes to sheer brutality, football doesn't hold a candle to rugby. The sport of rugby has more injuries per year than any other participation sport. Studies have shown that a player is three times more likely to get injured than someone practicing martial arts. The injuries run the gamut from torn muscles, concussions and broken bones. Even if a player happens to suffer from an injury, they will still continue to play unless they are to a point where they can no longer physically continue.

Cave diving is also another dangerous sport that you probably never though about. There is an extreme danger of decompression, which can cause failure of the spinal cord, brain and lungs. However, diving in caves takes things to a whole new level, because after the divers have landed in the cave, they then have to navigate through pitch-black caves to make their way back to the surface. Many times they lose their bearing, while struggling with air the minimal air supply in the caves. In addition to that, some of the caves actually have wild animals living in them. According to a recovery team based in San Marcos, there have been more than 500 deaths from this sport since the 1960s.

This may come as a shocker, but cheerleading is also on the list for most dangerous sports and it has been estimated that there are over 20,000 reported injuries in one year alone. This makes cheerleading the world's most injury-prone sport in the world for women. This sport is so dangerous that the girls on the sidelines are in more danger of being hurt than the guys on the football field. Many common injuries include broken legs and spinal injuries. Never tell a cheerleader that cheerleading is not a sport, you just may have your behind handed to you on a platter.

Motorcycling is the most dangerous motor race in the world. The Isle of Man TT event has a history of about 100-years. During that time, there have been over 220 deaths. The drivers in the race are required to maintain their balance while driving through all types of obstacles such as rocks and trees. This is all done while traveling at an extremely high rate of speed.

Fishing used to be a very sedate pastime. However, recently it has become a sport that has one of the highest mortality rates of any sport due to the number of people who drown every year. Rock fishing is probably the most dangerous of all types of fishing, because it involves casting a line into the ocean from the shoreline. This is very dangerous, and people often lose their lives when they are dragged under by huge unexpected waves. In the year 2001, 15 people died while rock fishing alone.
