Someone in the UK is £113 Million Richer Today
The Largest Lottery Prize Ever in the UK Has Been Claimed
There is another interesting twist to this story today, with Camelot, the company that operates lotteries in the UK, announcing that the record prize of £113 million has now been claimed.
The person who has claimed the prize is so far remaining anonymous, and they are apparently trying to decide whether to go public with this or not.
No information has been released either of the location where the winning ticket was purchased, so nobody knows for sure if it was the Spar supermarket in Coventry where this elderly couple were supposed to have bought their ticket or not.
It's really hard to keep a huge lottery win like this a secret though, especially if you live in a small property, maybe rent rather than own it, and have just enough income to scrape by.
The fact that you have won a sum as big as this is sure to leak out somehow, it's impossible not to.
Imagine if you will that the winners are actually this elderly couple, who are in their 70's. even if they deposited the money into their bank, it would be hard for everyone at the bank to not say something to someone that they know.
Imagine that you were the winner, and had to go to your boss and tell them that you were quitting your job. How could you do this without jumping up and down like a teenager who had just had sex for the first time? What reason would you give to your boss for leaving without giving the game away and making people suspect that you had come into a windfall.
I just don't think that it's possible to keep something like this a secret for long, and so like many of us in the UK, I am waiting to hear who has actually won this huge amount of money, and to know if it is this elderly couple or not.
Apparently over 1,000 people have come forward and said that they bought the winning ticket, the draw for which took place 13 days ago.
The big question is, did this couple actually have the winning ticket, or were they just like so many other people in the past, just trying to fraudulently try to claim that they had won.
One thing is certain though, the winner has now instantly become the 589th wealthiest in the UK, being richer than Phil Collins (£108 million), Rod Stewart (£105 million) and David Bowie (£100 million).
There is one big difference between winning the lottery in the UK and in the USA, and that is you pay tax when you buy the ticket, not on your winnings, therefore the prize of £113 million is actually £113, not a mere fraction of this.
I would be happy just to win a few thousand to help me get by...

Please keep us updated on this interesting story. I'd love to see the older couple win this.
I hope it's the old couple!
very interesting-hope it does not destroy their lives
If I win I'm going to pay Katie to manage it for me.
Investing your winnings is very important when you win the lotto! If I ever won, I'd invest or save at least half. My kids would also have trust funds! I never want my kids to struggle the way we always have...
Hopefully they will spend wisely, too many lottery winners file bankruptcy within 5 years.
Oh, I could definitely handle $12,000 a month.
I wonder could this be the elderly couples ticket tha t'he' misplaced and someone found?
@Michele I wish it was our ticket! I meant to buy one that week, but forgot. I have 1 set for each week from now on though. @R.K.LoBello It doesn't matter if you pay tax on the ticket or the winnings, the tax man gets the same, however if you pay it on the ticket like we do here, you don't really notice the cost. Imagine winning $1 million and finding that the tax man is due more than half of that! I would be very sad. @Abby If I won that amount I think I would stick it all in the bank and live off the interest. At $12,000 a month, I think I could manage...
