Something You: The Best Little Dress Shop in Lakewood, California

Something New and Different at Something You in Lakewood, California

Loraine Alkire
Nestled at the north end of Lakewood, California is something new, a little boutique aptly named, 'Something YOU'. This shop, with its chic and kitschy trappings could sit in the most elaborate of settings, Rodeo Drive, Fashion Plaza, but here it is in Lakewood, California. The owner, Pamela Abderhalden, her teenage daughter and family put this shop together with love and hard work in their home town, because they felt it fitting.

And speaking of fitting, this is a juniors shop with junior's sizes, but age is just a number and if you are junior size, you should check it out. There is something for everyone, nostalgia, beautiful clothing hand-picked by Mrs. Abderhalden from the garment district, so her customers, don't have to go to the garment district and wade through to find what they want. She's found it for them. Add to that candy from yesteryear; beautiful comfortable surroundings( eye candy in itself); gift items galore and the infectious personalities of Mrs. Abderhalden and her daughter.

It's not a hard sale. Talking to Mrs. Abderhalden is like talking to a great neighbor or friend; Pamela Aberhalden is just that way, a completely down to earth woman with a love and eye for fashion. (Family run businesses are just the best). There is so much to see- and the slideshow in this article does not do it justice, so I've created another slideshow, where you can see more of this wonderful shop here.

The lovely lounge area with its sleek modern red leather sofa sectional with artful painting above speaks volumes about the flavor of this boutique. It's just comfortable the moment you walk in. Each wall has a different theme and yet it all blends. On one wall there are multi-colored lockers some open, some closed with great casual wear hanging or nestled in the mix.

On another wall, is a beautiful hutch displaying candy and those great kitschy little items. The store display is immaculate with beautiful mannequins posing in great adornments that draw you into the store.

Another area presents gifts in cubbies, from baby's first day to fuzzy slippers that cannot be resisted. Her jewelry area compliments the clothing. 'Something You' has it all, fashion accessories like scarves, wraps, jewelry, key chains, clutches, hats and more.

So what are you waiting for Lakewood, California- and for that matter Orange County, and the rest of Los Angeles? If you're looking for the dress that no one else has- that's perfect for play, a wonderful soiree, or just some hanging out gear- Get to Something You! It is you, trust me on that.

What Pamela Aberhalden has to say, "Something You, is an independently owned clothing and gift boutique, was opened in June of 2010 by a former art teacher, with inspiration from her teenage daughter and her friend. Customers have said that ...something YOU has a warm and inviting atmosphere. You are always welcome to relax in our lounge area, and even bring your coffee and frozen yogurt with you (both available nearby). Our selection of clothing varies both in style and price, but our goal is to provide the best quality construction and fabric possible to suit your budget. The mix of gifts and accessories is truly eclectic, often humorous and even quirky, yet is also as classic as Whiting and Davis handbags, or as serious as Fair Trade products from around the world. We hope that we have ...something for YOU."

Something YOU- is located at 5532 Woodruff Ave, Lakewood, CA 90713-1535 map (562) 461-2309

I could have sworn I commented on this article, but I see it isn't here, so my computer must have had a glitch (or AC did?) – anyway, looks like a lovely little shop.

It's always more fun to shop in a family business that reflects the owners' personalities. Great find!
