Sometimes People Do Do Good

Some Good Churches in Lockhart, Texas

Butch West
This past Sunday I attended Brazos Street Baptist Church here in Lockhart, Texas. Can you guess what street it is on? If you said Brazos Street you are right. Because of it's location I expected it to be an all Black Church or mostly Black church, but every body I met was white (not that there is anything wrong with an all black church or mostly black church, there is not and I may attend one this coming Sunday). They are affiliated with the American Baptist Association and the Missionary Baptist Association of Texas.

When Sunday School started there were 4 people in the church (that I could see), including me, the pastor, the pastor's wife and another person. A 5th person joined soon, but about 45 minutes into the lesson a few people walked in, the Pastor literally stopped his lesson, greeted these people, chatted with them a little, then they took a seat and he continued on with the lesson. Once again the lesson plan was in line with scripture as was the sermon.

But that was not the end of the blessings from this church. They graciously invited me to stay for lunch, which I did. They sent me home with a boatload of food including apples, potatoes, carrots and those delicious homemade biscuits. The real wheel on my bicycle had a flat and the Pastor gracious gave me a ride home.

But that is not the end of the blessings I have received this week from Christians. I was hitchhiking home here to Lockhart from Austin and a lady stopped, she had no intention of giving me a ride, but she had stopped. She basically offered me a can of food, graciously so, but I said "I have plenty of food, all I need is a ride to Lockhart". She reluctantly, but graciously gave me a ride to Lockhart, but it did not stop there, she called the deacon of her church and graciously asked him to take me the rest of the way home from downtown Lockhart, and he did.

Several people have given me rides into either Lockhart or Austin, so God Bless you and Thank You. Now all I need is a local job. You can call Rob manager of the local (Lockhart) Domino's Pizza (512)-398-9090 to hire me to hand out flyers for them door to door. One thing I know I need to do is improve my attitude. My goal should to be of service to the company. I think I can do this handing out flyers door to door for some companies in Lockhart. It's also something a person such as myself with limited means of transportation can do.

Well, I just wanted to acknowledge that sometimes strangers, churches and their people (aka the Family of God) do do good.
