Somewhere in Time

Krissy White
A lifetime of dreams have passed since you've held me in your arms. Years of broken schemes since you've kissed my lips. Marriages, children, and broken hearts, we've endured them all since last we've lain in grasses of splendor.

So many times I've longed to hold you as I've aged. So many times I've ached for you as I've cried my desperate tears. Would you have dried them each had you been here?

Today I looked upon your face. In your eyes, I saw "us" there still. With just a smile, I knew of where I've lived. A place for me deep within you. A hidden shadow, no one can enlighten.

Oh, how we've longed for one another. Aching for the touch of long ago days. Hungered for the taste of an innocence past. Stumbling through life, attempting to brighten the darkness left by our parting. That you've needed me time and again, I saw etched in your heart. The memory of me, chiseled in your every gaze.

You took my breath away today, just as you did in the summer of my youth. So now must we ponder all these wasted years? And how many miles wide is this ocean of tears? Fighting the current, back to one another, do we dare? And what of the fall out, left in our wake, heaping atop the ones for which we care? Is our happiness more precious than theirs?

To finally set ourselves free, would cause the stars in their eyes to fall from the sky. Selfish would be we, if we walked out on it all. I'm not that shallow, so leave me today, alone, to dwell. Empty for now, with you in my dreams. Look to tomorrow, and somewhere, somehow, you'll find me there.
