Song of the Gladiolus

Harold Dean Sink
I'm a new bulb
So stout and round.
Here I lay
Deep in the ground.
The soil is cold
For very long
Then the sun comes along,
And then I sing my song.

I am growing up
Straight to the sky.
I pierce through the ground
And I grow up high.

How tall I grow
I do not know.
I just keep pusing up
As far as I can go.

Out of the ground,
Here I come.
Just a sprout
Is how I appear to some.
A few days more
And I'll be taller than the other
Oh, you'll see.
Give me time,
For I grow quick.
More water and sun,
And I'll be taller
In the long run.

I am growing up
Straight to the sky.
I pierce through the ground
And I grow up high.

How tall I grow
I do not know.
I just keep pusing up
As far as I can go.

I've reached my limit,
And the bees love me.
Oh, look there's a hummingbird
Flying towards me.
Hornets, wasps and butterflies
Love me, too.
I am more than just pretty,
I am usefull, too.
My colors are stark.
Take a photo of me.
Aren't you glad now
That you planted me.

I am growing up
Straight to the sky.
I pierce through the ground
And I grow up high.

How tall I grow
I do not know.
I just keep pusing up
As far as I can go.
