Sonic's New Blazin' BBQ Loaded Burger Packs a Punch

Amy Brantley
There's no denying the fact that I love spicy food. I also happen to enjoy hamburgers. So, naturally, when I saw the commercial for Sonic's Blazin' BBQ Loaded Burger, I knew I had to try it. In fact, I went and tried it the very next day. But, would this burger live up to the claims the commercial made? Would it really be that hot and spicy?

Sonic's Blazin' BBQ Loaded Burger starts with a sweet habanero BBQ sauce and then piles on slices of jalapeno peppers, deep fried jalapeno pepper strips, pepper jack cheese, bacon, lettuce and tomato. With heat coming from three different sources, you would expect this burger to be spicy, right? Little did I know that this burger would go beyond spicy.

The first thing I noticed when I bit into this burger was the sweet taste of the barbecue sauce. It starts out sweet like honey, but then burns the back of your throat. But, it's a good burn. Next, I noticed the heat of the jalapeno slices. As I continued to munch on the burger though, and this is a huge burger, I began to feel a bit overwhelmed. I had to stop and take a breather every now and then. About halfway through the burger, I noticed that my tongue was extremely sensitive to the salt on my tater tots. It was as if my tongue was starting to feel raw. By the time I was done with the burger, my tongue not only hurt, but felt like it was throbbing '" something I had never experienced before.

Yes, this burger is hot. Is it too hot to eat though? That depends on your level of tolerance for spicy foods. I won't lie and say this burger is easy to get through, it is indeed blazing. However, it's not a heat that simply burns. There are great flavors in this burger.

Now for the bad news. A Blazin' BBQ Loaded Burger has 1120 calories, 62 grams of fat, 21 grams of saturated fat, 2 grams of trans-fat, 130mg of cholesterol, 2330mg of sodium, 96 grams of carbohydrates, 8 grams of fiber, 34 grams of sugar, 45 grams of protein, 15% of your daily Vitamin A, 20% of your daily Vitamin C, 20% of your daily calcium and 50% of your daily iron.

I would have to give this burger 4 out 5 stars. I really enjoyed the flavor, but it was a bit overwhelming. If you have the least bit of sensitivity to heat, do not order this burger. However, if you love hot and spicy food, I highly recommend it.

Our Sonic's food is worse than bad here. It is a disgrace. I don't see why the company allows it to stay in business.
