Sonnet 18 (the Aftermath)

NOT Autobiographical! I'm Happily Married

Peter Flom
Shall I contrast thee to a winter's night?
Thou are more frigid and less temperate.
Even in January some days might
Warm to comfort before the sun must set.

Sometimes you cry at woundless scars.
And oft you rage at insults never dealt.
Napoleon had nothing on our wars.
Oh! that these damned eternal vows would melt

Dissolve, and resolve themselves into a dew.
Divorce! That's how I will end this fix
I count the days 'til I bid you adieu.
One day you'll go across the river Styx.

I'll try not to sour on your whole sex
Waiting, waiting, until you are my ex.

Love this! I plan to share with my English classes when we study Shakespeare. I always enjoy showing students the modern day twists on Shakespeare's inspiration.
