Sons of Anarchy, Season 2, Episode 5: "Smite" Recap

Sons of Anarchy, season 2, episode 5's theme is "Smite." The Sons of Anarchy and the white supremacists are focused on dealing each other a death blow. Things are getting down and dirty, in Charming, and it can be hard to tell whose side the police are on.

Sons of Anarchy, Season 2, Episode 5: Unfriendly Warnings
The Sons of Anarchy visit enemy territory, Zobelle's cigar shop. Clay goes in to assert his authority in Charming to the white supremacist. He interrupts a real estate scam discussion, between Zobelle and Deputy Hale's brother, who leaves. Clay threatens Zobelle, demanding a monthly payment for "protection."

This gives Zobelle the appropriate opportunity to get back at the Son's of Anarchy. He has already planned an attack on Otto, a SAMCRO member in prison. Otto is mopping the floor, when three skin head inmates are admitted access to him. He manages to get a hit in each. Then they take him down and ram a broken mop handle through the Sons of Anarchy member's eye.

Sons of Anarchy, Season 2, Episode 5: Deputy Hale
Deputy Hale is a central figure, in Sons of Anarchy, season 2, episode 5. We have been led to believe that the honest officer, with a beef against SAMCRO, is in Zobelle's pocket. The white power leader brings Hale a copy of the Son's of Anarchy blowing up a house/meth lab. Oppie's face is clearly shown. he also receives a video of himself receiving an envelope from the meth cook. it looks like a bribe, but was really a coupon/message from Zobelle.

Sons of Anarchy's second-in-command, Jax, also visits Hale. Jax wants to know who's side he is on and lets the officer know that SAMCRO knows he let Darby's white pride-funded meth lab slide.

Sons of Anarchy, Season 2, Episode 5: Gemma
Gemma is still dealing with the aftermath of her rape by Zobelle's men. While with Tara, she chases the woman responsible for getting her kidnapped. She doesn't catch the woman, who we discover is Zobelle's daughter. She does manage to clock Tara in the nose with a gun, when startled.

A broken nose gives Tara the nerve to tell Gemma to see a psychiatrist or she will tell the sheriff to lock her up for assault. The Sons of Anarchy matriarch agrees, but chickens out, when the psychiatrist asks to see her. She runs in to Jax, her son, who offers her a ride home.

The ride is abruptly ended in a street brawl between the Sons of Anarchy and Zobelle's men. While everyone is in lockup, the Sheriff lets Deputy Hale know that he knows Hale has been talking to Zobelle. Hale is infuriated with the sheriff calling his integrity into question, when the man is clearly in SAMCRO's pocket. He is then let in on the secret of Gemma's rape. Armed with this knowledge, he lets everyone go with a warning and gives the Sons of Anarchy the means to put an end to the bogus real estate deal.

Sons of Anarchy, Season 2, Episode 5: Hard Vote
Clay, the Sons of Anarchy's leader, and Jax begin to round up supporters for the revenge vote. Clay wants to extract immediate and harsh revenge. Jax is in favor of doing recon first. The DVD of the house explosion tells him that the white supremacists are looking for a quick, thoughtless reaction. The vote is split 4/4, meaning the Sons of Anarchy would not take immediate action.

Bobby, who had the decided vote, tells Clay that if he wants "blind action, go to Tig. If you want truth, come to me." He sites always having the best interests of the Sons of Anarchy at heart. This rings a little false, since Bobby is covering up for Luanne, who has been embezzling money from SAMCRO.

Sons of Anarchy, season 2, episode 5 ends with an explosion. Chibs, who voted for restraint, starts a van that has been wired with a bomb. It is hard to tell if he makes it out alive. The next episode of Sons of Anarchy is bound to have SAMCRO throw caution to the wind and hunt for white supremacist blood.
