Sons of Anarchy Season 3 Episode 1 Starts Another Bloody Year

Sons of Anarchy Season 3 Episode 1 had much to live up to. Fans had waited months for Sons of Anarchy Season 3 Episode 1, and Sons of Anarchy Season 3 in general. The episode not only had to pick up from last December's various cliffhangers, it had to start things off the way last year's premiere did. Of course, they couldn't rape and assault a seemingly untouchable character in this premiere. Yet Sons of Anarchy Season 3 Episode 1 had other brands of shocking violence and plot twists up its sleeve.

Not only is Season 2 arch-villain Ethan Zobelle long gone from Charming, but so is Jax's baby son, thanks to a series of mistakes by Gemma and ATF Agent Stahl. With no trace of the True IRA member who took little Abel, Jax is lost in a spiral of guilt and self-loathing. This causes him to try to push away what family he has left -- but neither Tara nor SAMCRO is going away easily.

In Sons of Anarchy Season 3 Episode 1, Jax, Clay and SAMCRO don't even have Gemma to hold them up. But this is a necessary risk, with Gemma on the run for murder, and cut off from news of Abel's kidnapping. Yet although she can't be with her family, she becomes inspired to return to the family she had before SAMCRO.

Despite the danger around Gemma, Sons of Anarchy Season 3 Episode 1 kept her safe, unlike in the last premiere -- and she even got to do some damage this time. Yet, in this first outing, the big violent twist occurred far away from her -- and may have done something that even last year's opening show did not do.

Although it was a long wait for SAMCRO devotees to see what happened next, Sons of Anarchy Season 3 Episode 1 had little resolution for them. Abel is still gone, and stands to be for some time. The club is still divided, and may not be all together in the same place for much of the year. Yet emotionally, SAMCRO is still united together, after being at each other's throats for much of Season 2.

Newfound unity can only get the club so far this year, given the various new threats. Although Zobelle pushed them to the brink last season, Charming may be even more unsafe for the Sons now. The search for Abel is set to take SAMCRO into brand new territory -- and, given the show's history, there is no safety net for where that may end up.
