Sony Ericsson K850i Review

Kent AC
The first impression the K850i brings to us is its design. It is the traditional Sony Ericsson cell phone at the front and exactly a Sony Cyber-shot camera at the back. Combine with many functions it offers, the K850i has potential to gain attention from the cell phone market.

Design

The K850i still keeps the traditional thick candy-bar design with rounded corners. There is a 2.2-inch TFT screen that is able to display high resolution at 320x240 pixels. Actually, the display is very good as the motions and pictures are sharp and clear, you also can adjust the brightness and contrast in order to use in different light conditions.

It looks like Sony Ericsson want to have the K850i truly advanced to its previous models as the keyboard design is completely different. First, there are there white sensors under the screen that you can use it to access the main functions. Because it is a new feature so you may need so time to get accustomed with it. Second, the D-pad navigation is now in the keyboard and it surrounds the 2 and 5 buttons. However, you won't find any difficulty pressing the navigating buttons as the keys is rather small with square-shape.

If you only look at the back of the phone, you may think it is a normal Cyber-shot camera, not a cell phone because it is very well-designed. There is also a Cyber-shot symbol at the upper-right corner. The K850i has a 5-megapixel lens and it inherits many features from Sony's Cyber-shot camera family. There is a xenon flash light which is place far from the lens in order to prevent to bad effects on the pictures. To make it just like a camera, Sony offers multi-control keys on the right side of the phone including Camera-video recorder switch key, shutter key, on/off button. Everything makes the K850i so different and interesting.

User Interface and Applications

We can't compare the K850i User Interface with other S60 cell phones from Nokia or Windows Mobile-equipped phones because it is simply an entertainment cell phone, not a smart phone. In general, you can find all necessary applications with easy-to-use interfaces in the K850i, but you may not be in love with it because it is darker than and not as fancy as other present phones.

However, Sony still has something special given to the K850i such as Flash Lite themes and multi-task option that allows you to run many applications at the same time.

Because it is an entertainment cell phone, the K850i is equipped with high performance multimedia function. The K850i can play various digital music formats such as MP3, AAC, AAC+, E-AAC, WAV, WMA, M4A and MIDI. It also provides many equalizer settings to fit your music taste.

Connectivity

The K850i operates well on tri-band HSDPA with 3.6 Mb/s speed and tri-band GSM so it can be used almost everywhere in the world. It also has FM radio and Bluetooth technology for file transfer. However, the K850 is lack of Wi-Fi connection.

The Sony Ericsson K850i is powered by a Li-Poly BST-38 battery with a capacity of 930 mAh that can help the K850i live up to 400 hours in standby mode and 9 hours of call making.

In conclusion, with everything it has, the K850i will be a good choice for anyone who wishes an entertainment cell phone and suburb camera.
