Although Sony is the pioneer in portable music players when it launched the Walkman many years back, it failed to make a dent on the iPod's sales when they released their new Walkman music players early last year. The Electronics giant seems resigned to the fact that consumers prefer the iPod when it comes to portable audio devices. As Andrew Sivori, Sony Electronics' director of personal audio products in the Digital Imaging and Audio Division says, "Consumers are treating the iPod as a format, like the compact disc, which is why Sony is now delivering audio products to support it." He also said that high-quality sound, unique features, and exceptional design set their new boombox and clock radio apart. Sony also has a high end cradle audio system for the iPod already available at their Sony Style online store that costs $249.99.
The ICF-C1iP clock radio can support most iPod models. It has a wireless remote so you can access your iPod's menu as well as the radio tuning and volume and it can also charge the iPod while on the cradle. Consumers can choose to wake up to their favorite tunes on their iPod, the radio or the alarm buzzer. The unit also automatically adjusts to Daylight Savings Time and an adjustable brightness control for the LCD. The ICF-C1iP comes in two colors, Black and White and will be available starting August for $100.
The ZS-S2iP is Sony's latest boombox that also supports the iPod. Like the clock radio, it can also charge your iPod while dock and can support most iPod models. The ZS-S2iP boombox features a built-in AM/FM radio, CD player that can play both CD-R and CD-RW formats, a wireless remote control that can also access the iPod menu, auxiliary input, AC/DC operation includes Sony's Mega Bass Sound System. The ZS-S2iP boombox will also be available in August and also comes in Black and White colors. Price for the boombox is also set at $100. Both the clock radio and the boombox will be available at Sony Style stores, authorized Sony dealers nationwide and online at www.sonystyle.com.
