Sony Mylo VS Apple iPhone: Which Gift Will Win the Holiday Season?

Robert Cole
Sony and Apple will be facing off this season with their two phone/MP3 player products. Both the Sony Mylo and the iPhone are great gift ideas, but after all is said and done, which phone will people be buying for themselves or loved ones?

The Sony Mylo personal communicator is more of a video game system than a phone. This bad boy comes fit with video playback capabilities, complete MP3 player and even an 'anywhere goes' WiFi connection to the Internet so checking emails and surfing the web can be done virtually anywhere.

Another plus to this Internet connection is how dependable the WiFi hotspot (802.11b) Internet connection is. This service is pretty quick, even to some PC standards. Reliable Internet coupled with all of Mylo's other features makes this a great gift choice for the holidays.

The Sony Mylo comes equipped with a headphone option and a QWERTY keyboard for quick and easy text messaging or business typing. Also, an entire gig of flash drive space is included for all your MP3's, video segments and ring tones.

The Apple iPhone is considered to be a technological breakthrough by many. This device has so many features it's ridiculous and entire articles could probably be written on the iPhone alone. Never before has such a high tech module come in such a small package.

iPhone offers-instead of 1 gig of drive space- 8GB, which can fit a lot more than the Sony Mylo. But the major attribute that makes iPod so revolutionary is that iPhone uses touch screen technology which has never been produced and distributed before into a consumer product. The user friendly touch screen technology makes dialing a number, surfing the Internet or scrolling through a document exciting and easy.

Icons are set up in a self-explanatory way, so even if you're not a techno-guru, the iPhone won't confuse or frustrate you with an elaborate instruction manual or tutorial. Other interesting features offered include a voice mail program that allows you to choose which voice message you'd like to listen to and a built in Wii-esque sensor that adjusts the screen according the angle you hold it at.

iPhone also carries all of the music capabilities offered in the iPod, so Apple's iPhone is really an all-in-one package that encompasses a whole spectrum of modern day needs and luxuries.

The big difference between the iPhone and the Sony Mylo is the price. Sony Mylo is going for about $299 whereas the iPhone goes for about $399. Also, Apple originally released the iPhone at a much higher price and then lowered it drastically, which is a pretty good indication of how much the company is willing to rip you off. The Sony Mylo may not offer a touch screen or sexy, sleek setup- but it does cover the bases when it comes to a phone, MP3 player and email in one.

Choosing between the Apple iPhone and the Sony Mylo is really a personal choice determined by budget and style, but the iPhone definitely takes the cake this year when it comes to seasonal gifts. The Mylo is great for necessity, but the iPhone is perfect for those who don't mind a little bit of extravagance to kick of this years holiday season.
