Sony PlayStation Phone Sony Ericsson Xperia PLAY Android Smartphone Announced

The long awaited PlayStation phone is coming in March 2011, and the Sony Ericsson Xperia PLAY Android smartphone boasts quite an impressive array of specs that doesn't disappoint - including 3D games.

In addition to the 5.1 megapixel camera, four inch screen, and latest Android operating system Gingerbread, the Sony Ericsson Xperia PLAY Android smartphone hides impressive gaming controls under its hood.

When sliding out the shiny new game pad from underneath the Xperia PLAY's screen, one is confronted with two analogue touch pads, a digital D pad, two shoulder bumpers, and all four of the PlayStation's iconic gaming buttons.

The Sony Ericsson Xperia PLAY Android smartphone runs on a Snapdragon processor that features a "1Ghz CPU and ibedded Adreno GPU graphics processor deliver silky smooth 60fps play-back 3D mobile gaming and Web browsing with minimal power consumption so Xperia PLAY users can enjoy long hours of battery life and game time."

Games can be downloaded on the Xperia PLAY with the PlayStation Suite program. At launch, the Sony Ericsson Xperia PLAY will feature "EA's The Sims 3 and FIFA 10 for mobile. GLU Mobile/Activision will be bringing Guitar Hero while Gameloft's titles include Assassin's Creed and Splinter Cell."

Gameloft president Michael Guilliot says "Gameloft will support the launch with more than 20 titles over the next 6 months that will take full advantage of the power of this device," while Travis Boatman from EA said "We look forward to watching consumers interact with our great games in new ways through the Xperia PLAY."

Pricing of the Sony Ericsson Xperia PLAY Android smartphone, games, and carrier plans aren't known at this time.
