Bundled with the new larger capacity Playstation 3 model is popular racing game MotorStorm, which is online-enabled. Online-enabled means that gamers can download components to Playstation 3 games or even stand-alone games through the Playstation Network. The Playstation Store, which supplies content to the Playstation Network, currently has "more than 60 playable games and game-related downloads available", according to the Sony press release. The new larger capacity Playstation 3 will enable gamers to download more games and more add-on components than its smaller capacity sibling. In conjunction with the release in August, multiple new games will be made available both through retail outlets and the online Playstation Store.
There are currently 40 software titles available for the Playstation 3, with more than 120 new releases slated for the remainder of 2007. The latest version of the Playstation 3 is designed to keep Sony in the forefront of gaming technology, providing important updates to keep gamers engaged. Jack Tretton, the president and CEO of SCEA, stated, "As we move into the next phase of PS3, it's important that we continue to evaluate our product line, offering consumers the technology and features that meet their growing needs for new forms of media and the way in which it is delivered."
Gaming enthusiasts stood in line for days prior to the release of the original Playstation 3 in November 2006. Such a showing would not be anticipated for the August 2007 release of the newest Playstation 3 version, but it would be reasonable to expect many gamers to upgrade while others who haven't yet purchased systems decide to buy now.
Some new games that will be released for the Playstation 3 in the remainder of 2007 include NBA '08, Grand Theft Auto IV, Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix and two games based on the works of Tom Clancy: Rainbow Six Vegas and Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter 2.

Post a CommentJust one thing to add here albiet purely for the record: there's a nasty rumor going around that sales of the current 60gig model will only continue until they run out, and then it's $600 version as the only available PS3 model... AGAIN. Worse, they're taking out the backwards compatability and forcing software emulation of old games on customers which although it saves money for Sony is going to screw a lot of people for the SAME REASON as bumping the price back up. Then you'll see sales halt again, lots of angry fanboys and possibly the disabling of the back-compat hardware in existing PS3 units in favor of software emulation and fanboys storming into Sony HQ while Kaz and Company pull out of the console market like Sega did.
I'm not very familiar with Wii, quite honestly, but based on your comments, I'm going to see if I can borrow a system from one of my husband's cousins and test it out - perhaps an article about Wii vs PS3 would be a great addition to my portfolio! Thanks for the comments, ya'll!
Wii...vs PS3 ?
comparing wii to ps3 is like comparing apples to oranges
Ultra popular? Honestly... anyone who has spent any time at all following the gaming industry over the last year could tell you the PS3 has thus far, been a disappointment sales-wise.
Sony has a lot of catching up to do, and price-cut or no, $500 bucks is still a far cry from the impulse-buy priced Wii at $257.
I just think it was silly for Sony to charge so much when all they did was improve graphics and not the game play. However the added space is a perk. But the issue is that its for downloadable content that will come down the line when xbox and nintendo already have it readily available.
I enjoyed the article however i am just adding my opinion.
Still cant compare to Wii or Wii sales. It just looks better thats about it. Cant compete
