Sony PS3 Survey Questions Get Weird

I do not mean that it is asking me if I am eating well, though I think it would be really cool if the PS3 could automatically deliver a three course meal somewhere from the hard drive. Nor is it telling me to stop relying on it for support and go find some real friends outside. My PS3 is an enabler in letting me play my video games into the wee hours.

No, it has started asking me about my love life, such as asking me if I had my first kiss recently. That horse left the barn ages ago.

And when either my mother or my game console is asking such, I can feel a tinge of fear running down my back.

A recent Sony Playstation survey is asking a series of questions that usually are marketing related. I may never divulge how often I play my video games-the log records do that well enough for me-but the new questions are getting a bit more quirky and personal such as:

Beyond video games, what feature of your PS3 could you not live without?

What is your favorite snack while using the PS3?

Would you rather give up video games or time with your family for a year?

Have you canceled a date or missed a party because you were playing a video game? If I ever did that, I sure would not tell them that it was because of video games.

What are your dating rules around the PS3? Typically by the third date, she would be playing with my Wii-Mote and I do not mean the one connected to the Nintendo.

A quick glance of some questions like the snacking implies that the PS3 is set for some cross-promotions with said snacks. The question on features will likely forecast which of the least popular features will get the ax should Sony ever downsize the PS3's functions. But what of the personal social questions? They do not seem to serve a real purpose outside of nosing about.

When I am playing a video game-PS3 or otherwise-the last thing on my mind is my personal life. Perhaps Sony is attempting to set up a matchmaking service between gamers. Or maybe they are setting up interventions for the gaming addicted. Whatever the reasons and plans they have for this line of questioning, it sure does feel weirder than the usual "How many games do you purchase a month?"

Whatever Sony is planning with this information, it sure will not rely on my answers as I toss this survey in the bin.
