If you are an avid gamer like myself, you are anxiously awaiting the arrival of Sony's PS4 in 2010. Yes, that's right, there will be a Playstation 4, but not before 2010, according to Vice President of SCEA, Paul Holman. A lot of hype surrounded the release of the PS3, but the console didn't seem to live up to the expectations of most gamers like myself. I'm not sure if it was the lack of game selection or the price of the console itself that scrubbed my interest in the PS3, but if the PS4 is going to be a hit, then Sony will need to address both of these problems.
Affordability
Remember the days when the newest game systems costs $200 or less? Well, it seems as if those days are long gone. Now days, a new gaming system can cost as much as a decent laptop computer. With the release of the PS4, Sony should look into lowering their production costs in order to bring consumers a great system at an affordable price. I'm no expert, but I believe a lower introduction price on the PS4 will lead to more games for the system being sold, which will net Sony a higher profit.
Games
Maybe I'm alone, but it seems as if there weren't that many games available for PS3 when it debuted. The few games that I saw before the release of the PS3 looked promising and actually made me want to buy the system. Before I was able to save up enough money to buy a PS3, I started to notice that there weren't that many games that I was interested in. Personally, I would like to see sony bring a few classics to the PS4, such as Pac Man, Street Fighter, and Pong to name a few.
To me, it almost seems that some of these games have become too complicated lately. The most basic movements have been made into a complex orchestra of thumb movements that used to be simple with the D Pad. Maybe I'm alone in this concept, but forcing us to use the Analog sticks instead of the D Pad is inconvenient to say the least. Hopefully Sony will correct this issue with PS4 games.
A lot of games have recently started to enter the massive multiplayer arena, and I think Sony should capitalize on this for the PS4. Personally, I wouldn't mind seeing and MMORPG come to a gaming system.
Of course, we can't forget the ability to play PS1, PS2, and PS3 games, which is one of the features that I've loved about every single Sony console to hit the market. Other systems obsolete the older games, which in some cases are the most fun. In my opinion, this is probably the most genius concept in gaming history.
Graphics
Sony, if you are reading this, don't change a thing. The graphics on the PS3 are out of this world. I may be wrong, but really, how much more clear can the graphics get? If Sony is in the market to become the first company to release a virtual gaming system that makes you feel like you are actually in the game and not playing one, then the PS4 would definitely be the console to do it on.
Extras
One thing I would definitely like to see included with the PS4 is the ability to play Blue Ray discs and DVDs. Sony has done a great job with this concept and I don't want to see it magically disappear from the PS4, only to become a seperate upgrade feature in order to get consumers to pay a higher price for an updated version.
Once concept that should be played around with is an optional hard drive slot where consumers can purchase their own hard drive to store games. This slot could be used to upgrade the hard drive from anywhere between 40GB to 750GB depending on your gaming habits. Of course, this hard drive would only be useful if Sony is willing to create a website dedicated to selling games online, which can be downloaded directly to your PS4 hard drive.
Conclusion
Personally, I believe that if Sony will listen to the fans, then the PS4 will be one of the biggest console debuts of all time.

Post a CommentOk so i basically got from your article is that you want the ps3.... again. Same graphics, ability to download online, add your own harddrive? all these things the Ps3 can do. and very well, backwards compatibility is the only take away from your article.... and of course its going to keep the bluray nothing else can handle the size requirements for ps3 games let alone the load of data a ps4 game might have to carry.
