Features
The Sony SC Series of laptops right now is mainly known for one model, the VPC-SC1AFM/S. It is only 1 inch thick and weighs 3.8 pounds with the standard battery in it. The casing is a silver, brushed aluminum look which is both sophisticated and durable. This lightweight and portable laptop is perfect for frequent travelers and those who need the convenience of a high-powered laptop at their disposal at all times. Because it is meant for people who are constantly on the run, it boasts a 7.5 hour battery life, which can be increased to 15 if you buy the extended battery (which I will discuss later in the accessories section). It has a 500 GB hard drive, a Blu-ray player, and an AMD Radeon HD 6470M graphics card to create smooth, crisp graphics and video playback. The graphics are so quality on this laptop that there is 512 MB of dedicated memory for the graphics alone. This means that playing HD video won't slow down your computer. This laptop has USB 3.0 technology which delivers transfer speeds up to 10 times faster than USB 2.0 technology.
The Sony SC Series of laptops are 13.3" laptops with an LED back-lit display capable of 1366x768 resolution. The display is bright and vibrant due to the 100% color saturation it is capable of. The technical capabilities of the display itself are enhanced by the Intel i5 Dual Core processor which boasts 2.3 GHz of processing power and is capable of 2.9 GHz when it uses Turbo Boost Technology. Think of Turbo Boost as the turbo in a car. You don't always need it, but if necessary you can kick into overdrive. The processor also has something called Intel Hyper-Threading Technology. Hyper-Threading is when each of the two cores is capable of handling two tasks simultaneously. This means four tasks can be completed at once, greatly enhancing the speed and efficiency of the computer. The VPC-SC1AFM/S model comes with Windows 7 Home Premium already loaded as an operating system. It is Bluetooth capable so you can connect your smartphone or other Bluetooth capable devices wirelessly. It has a built-in MOTION EYE camera and microphone so you don't have to deal with connecting an external camera to Skype your friends and family. All of this furthers the portable aspect of the laptop because you don't have to haul along wires and accessories. They're already there, built inside of the laptop itself.
The keyboard has an LED light behind it to light it up while you're working in dimly lit environments. This back-lit keyboard is just one of the extra features that set the Sony VPC-SC1AFM/S apart from its competitors. It also has Intel Wireless Display technology built into it which lets you wirelessly stream content in full 1080p, 5.1-channel surround sound to an HDTV. A system feature of the laptop lets you optimize the computer to boost either the speed or stamina of the computer. If you're trying to get a lot of work done boost the speed and prevent the laptop from slowing you down. If you're planning on going on a long trip and need the laptop to stay up as long as you, boost the stamina aspect and it'll conserve energy more efficiently.
Accessories
The VGP-BPSC24 VAIO Extended Sheet Battery is an alternative battery that will extend the laptops battery life to an astounding 15 hours. The great thing about this battery is that it doesn't require you to uninstall the battery that comes with the laptop. Instead it attaches to the bottom of the laptop. It is slim and lightweight so it doesn't become a burden if you want to bring it with you on a long trip. Another great aspect of the extended battery is that it is compatible with the Sony Docking Station (which I'll talk about next). It doesn't even need to be attached to the laptop to charge on the docking station, so you can let it charge at home while you go run some errands with the laptop.
The VGP-PRS20 Docking Station has four USB ports, an HDMI port, VGA port, two ethernet ports, and a DC input. This lets you connect multiple peripherals like a mouse, monitor, keyboard, printer, network cable, and power supply. It is compatible with the extended batter as stated before, so it can charge one batter while you use another.
The VGP-AML5/B VAIO Laptop Tote is a leather carrying case with a classic look. It has a padded interior which protects the laptop from sudden drops or bumps during your busy commute. Exterior pockets store all the laptops accessories and anything else you might want to store in there. It fits up to a 15.5" laptop, and is very capable of safely storing anything smaller.
The NETGEAR PTV1000 Push2TV Wireless TV Adapter is an accessory you'll need if you want to use the Intel Wireless Display but don't have an Internet connected HDTV. It plugs into an HDMI input on the HDTV and lets the Sony SC Series laptop communicate with the HDTV.
Cost
It is available at Best Buy for $979.99. On sale it could probably be found for around $900.
