The Design
The VAIO RM1N deviates from conventional desktop designs by having two system units. The main unit has the major components like the motherboard and processor while the secondary unit has the optical drives, hard disk and multi-format card reader. Both units can be placed either horizontally or vertically, giving users the choice of how to set-up their desktop. The only downside is that a monitor is not included in the package.
The Specifications
The VAIO RM1N is a truly powerful machine that houses power-packed features that is designed mainly for HD video editing capabilities. The VAIO RM1N is equipped with the latest Intel Core 2 Quad processor with 8 MB of shared L2 cache that could meet the demands of HD video editing and could keep up with the latest professional multimedia applications. The 2 GB DDR2 SDRAM memory provides for faster processing and ensures that the system is running smoothly.
Inside the secondary unit is a twin disk Serial ATA RAID 0 hard disk drive with 1 terabyte or 1024 GB of capacity, enough for at least 20 hours of HD editing and could be expanded to an additional 50 GB with the Blu-ray Disc optical drive.
When editing high definition videos, a good graphics card is a must so Sony equipped the VAIO RM1N with the NVIDIA GeForce 8600 GTS with 256 MB of GDDR3 video memory. The graphics card supports DirectX 10 and 3D effects that is perfect for video manipulation or high-end gaming.
The VAIO RM1N provides users with flexibility in customizing their machines. The system unit can house four additional SATA hard disk drives and has three open expansion slots. You can connect a variety of peripherals thanks to 12 USB 2.0 ports and three i.Link ports.
Special Features and Software
The VAIO RM1N has a specially designed Jog controller that is compatible with the Adobe Premiere Pro 2.0 included in the package. Also pre-installed with the RM1N is WinDVD BD that lets users watch HD movies with full HDCP support. The Click to DVD BD software provides users with tools that lets them burn their HD content to the Blu-ray Disc. The Windows Vista Business edition is the operating system of the RM1N.
With its original design, state-of-the-art features and powerful software pre-installed, the Sony VAIO RM1N is perfect for professionals that need a powerful system that could keep up with their video editing needs, but still want a cool looking PC to adorn their desktop.
