Sookie Stackhouse or Snooki Polizzi : Which TV Star Do You Prefer?

Sookie Stackhouse is the main character of the HBO show True Blood while Snooki is the nickname of MTV's Jersey Shore reality show TV star Nicole Polizzi. Academy Award winner Anna Paquin plays Sookie Stackhouse in True Blood while Nicole Polizzi plays herself as Snooki on the Jersey Shore.

Both women are TV stars and are instantly recognized by millions of their fans and viewers whenever they go out into public but which one of these woman associated with the unusual but similar names of Sookie and Snooki is the bigger star and which one do you prefer?

Ratings of Their Shows

Jersey Shore averaged over 5 million viewers per episode in season 2 which is a great number for a cable TV show and is the highest rated show on MTV and always wins its time slot on cable with 18-49 year olds.

True Blood averaged just under 5 million viewers in season 3 and is the highest rated show on HBO and also wins with the coveted 18-49 year olds that advertisers crave and target.

Edge: True Blood because many more households get MTV than HBO so True Blood's numbers are more impressive. Both shows rule cable TV.

True Blood vs Jersey Shore

Both shows are highly entertaining and easy to watch but the edge has to go to True Blood. Ten years from now people will still be watching reruns of True Blood while the Jersey Shore will be a distant memory.

Acting Ability

Anna Paquin won the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress in 1994 for her role as Flora McGrath in The Piano when she was 11 years old. Paquin also won the 2008 Golden Globe Best Actress Award for her role as Sookie Stackhouse in True Blood.

Despite the awards I would not call Paquin a great actress. As Sookie she often looks campy as she smiles her gap-toothed grin, runs around in her tight waitress outfit and is just flat-out funny when she tries to look astonished like when Sam told her he was a shape-shifter while she was hiding naked in the shower.

Snooki Polizzi has yet to win any awards but she did present an award at the 2010 CMT Music Awards and rang the opening bell of the New York Stock Exchange.

Co-Stars

True Blood has a huge cast but besides Paquin most people could not tell you the real life names of almost anyone else on the show.

The Jersey Shore has a much smaller cast and many people could cite you the real-life first names and nicknames of everyone on the show especially Mike "The Situation" Sorrentino and Jenni "JWoww" Farley.

HBO brings movies and original TV series like True Blood, Boardwalk Empire and The Sopranos to its paying customers.

MTV shows music videos and has reality based TV shows like the Jersey Shore and Real World.

Edge: Paquin and HBO because HBO produced a TV show featuring people who are actually from New Jersey with The Sopranos starring James Gandolfini. MTV will never produce a better show than The Sopranos.

Trouble With the Law

Except for announcing that she was bi-sexual in a public service announcement Anna Paquin has avoided controversy and not been in trouble with the law in her career.

Snooki Polizzi was arrested for disturbing the peace in the summer of 2010 at Seaside Heights down the shore in New Jersey. She pleaded guilty to the charge, was fined and admonished by the judge for being a Lindsay Lohan wannabe. After her arrest Senator John McCain said she was too good looking to go to jail.

Personal Life

Anna Paquin in real life is married to her True Blood co-star Stephen Moyer who plays her vampire lover on the show Bill Compton and has also announced she is bi-sexual.

Snooki Polizzi was born in Chile and was adopted as a young girl. She is single and really got famous when she was punched in the face by a man in a bar in Seaside Heights while filming an episode of the Jersey Shore.

Edge: close call because of the bi-sexual thing with Paquin but have to give the edge to Polizzi here

Looks

Both women are pretty, beautiful and sexy. Paquin is lean and built like an athlete while Polizzi is built like a well-endowed smurf with a 50's hairdos.

Likability

Both women are likable in their owns ways. Paquin has her cute gap-toothed smile while Snooki has her ridiculous hairdos and bunny slippers and often walks around drinking from a Big Gulp looking container using a straw. In real life Paquin is basically a mystery while Snooki puts out who she is each week which can make her unlikable at times.

Star Power

The final comparison is the biggest. Which one of these two women Sookie or Snooki has more real star power?

Anna Paquin is an accomplished actress who has won an Academy Award. She also played Rogue in the X-Men movies and starred in two other movies that did well at the box office - She's All That and Almost Famous. Paquin has huge star power and it's not hard seeing her starring in other big movies and possibly winning another Academy Award in the future.

Nicole Polizzi has some star power but she will likely never star in any movies and only be added to the cast of films as a side-show. There is no chance she will ever win an Academy Award though she might very well be better known than Anna Paquin is today. John McCain never said Anna Paquin was too pretty to go to jail.

Overall I have to give the edge to Anna Paquin as Sookie Stackhouse over Nicole Polizzi as Snooki.
