Soothing Lavender Cleanser

A Gentle, Soothing Wash

Sharon Schmidt Tyler

A cleansing routine is essential for healthy skin. This cleanser smells wonderful, is soothing and is safe for those with sensitive skin. Lavender and oats are among the most gentle and soothing ingredients you can use for skin care. Oats are common in soothing baths and washes, almond oil enriches the skin, and lavender also soothes while contributing its lovely gentle fragrance. These instructions make around two fluid ounces of the cleanser. The finished product should be refrigerated and should be used within three days of making.

I do recommend testing a small patch of skin before using and herbal product for the first time, to be sure that there are no allergic reactions or sensitivities to the ingredients. If you already know that you have a nut allergy, the jojoba or sunflower oil can be substituted for the almond oil.

Ingredients:

5 Drops of lavender essential oil

3 ½ Tablespoons of almond oil

1 Ounce of organic oats (25 grams)

1 Egg Yolk

Mineral Water

Directions:

  1. Put the oats in a bowl and add just enough mineral water to cover the oats.

  2. Let the oats soak in the water for at least one hour.

  3. Whisk the egg yolk in a food processor or blender.

  4. While whisking, add the almond oil one drop at a time. The resulting mixture should be relatively thick.

  5. Add the lavender essential oil one drop at a time, whisking again between drops.

  6. Strain the oats, squeezing the liquid into a bowl. This is the oatmilk that you will be using. The oats can be discarded.

  7. Slowly add the oatmilk to the egg mixture. Stir or whisk further as you add the liquid so that everything blends completely.

  8. When done the mixture should have a lotion like consistency.

  9. Store the blend in a clean glass container and seal.
