Help Make Every School Day a Great Day

Solving and soothing child anxieties over school issues can be challenging for all, but can be aided through using natural home remedies. Before running to the doctor for assistance, first try some home remedies to help ease the anxiety. These remedies are safe and most have the needed items in their homes. Children can have school anxieties for various reasons from fear of teasing to test taking. Anxiety about school is normal and working through issues with a school anxious child can bring a family closer together and help promote healthy discussions about stress and anxiety.

Bubbles for the Blues

Regulating your child's breathing can help ease anxiety. To ensure your child will have an anxiety free school day try packing a small container of bubbles and encourage them to blow bubbles whenever they are feeling down or stressed. By letting a teacher or friend at school know what the bubbles are for, they can help remind the anxious child to get out the bubbles, or let it slide that they are blowing bubbles when others are not.

Breathing long and deep helps to relieve anxiety, so if bubbles aren't an option, have the anxious child sit down and take some deep breaths. Make sure to practice breathing techniques with the school anxious child so they can control their own breathing in anxious situations. Singing a song may also aide in helping a child control their breathing and keep anxiety away. Finding a fun song that is a bit silly will alleviate an anxious mood and help turn the nervousness around.

Lavender and Lemon

The soothing scent of lavender will ease anxiety and release tension. Lavender is the most popular natural ingredient used in items for treatment of anxiety disorders. There are active ingredients in lavender including tannins, flavinoids, and oils that help ease anxiety. Start by creating a calming lavender bath in the morning before school. Many bath products that are safe for children of all ages have lavender as an ingredient. By taking lavender infused bath in the morning, it will start the day on a calm note and give you a chance to talk about your child's anxiety. Or, for older anxious students, give them a chance to relax and have some quiet time before an action filled school day. Pack a lavender satchel in your child's backpack for them to smell during the school day when they are feeling overwhelmed, or spray their clothes with a soothing lavender spray.

Lemon also causes the body to calm itself through its soothing smell. Lemon balm is a natural ingredient that also helps calm the body and lowers blood pressure. Many lotions for kids include lemon balm as an ingredient. Using some lemon balm lotion on your child in the morning before school will calm them down and provide them with a soothing smell. Lemon balm can also be purchased in small containers and sent to school with anxious kids and they can apply it to their skin when feeling stressed.

A Cup of Tea

A soothing cup of chamomile tea will soothe the stomach and also calm the nerves. A cup of chamomile tea each day will aid in relieving stress and anxiety, and it is safe for kids. Chamomile tea can be packed in a thermos and sent with children to be enjoyed during the school day. Taking the time to talk with your anxious school student while having a cup of tea in the morning is another way to soothe anxiety and start the day on a good positive note.

Children need to talk about their school anxiety, and by making sure all their concerns are heard, no matter how small, will make each school day easier. There is no quick fix to anxiety issues, and by taking the time to spend discussing anxiety with your child, it will help stop anxiety issues.
