Artisans of Leisure was founded in 2003 by Ashley Isaacs Ganz, a Philadelphian who had roamed the globe for more than a decade. During her travels she gained an eclectic and colorful travel resume that includes elephant trekking in the Golden Triangle, studying aboriginal art at the University of Sydney, working for two years at the Japanese Ministry of Education's JET program, hiking Tasmania's Cradle Mountain, becoming skilled at the nuances of Thai cuisine whilst living in Bangkok, and hunting down Berber rugs in Morocco.
Ganz worked on her thesis on the sociological study of luxury travel at the London School of Economics and it was during this time that she became bound and determined to found a travel company that would significantly redefine and enhance the future of luxury travel. The result was Artisans of Leisure.
Artisans of Leisure certainly echo Ganz's own personality and outlook offering travel to off the map and out of the guidebook places to visit. These include visiting places such as colorful village markets, renowned craftsmen, little known museums and talking with experts about local traditions. Artisans of Leisure offer the sophisticated traveler luxurious, private international tours that focus on authentic cultural experiences.
This unique tour company's specialty lies practically exclusively on custom designed travel which relies heavily on highly trained and motivated foreign staff to meet the needs and the desires of the most fastidious client.
