Sorry, Sarah Palin; David Letterman Doesn't Owe Me an Apology

Reverse sexism is becoming quite a problem in our society, and Sarah Palin's call for David Letterman to apologize for a tasteless joke about her teenage daughter has made this issue even more obvious to me.

David Letterman's joke about Sarah Palin's daughter has taken on a life of it's own since Sarah Palin called him out for it. Basically David Letterman made a joke about Alex Rodriguez getting Sarah Palin's daughter Bristol pregnant, stating that Sarah Palin's daughter had gotten "knocked up" by Alex Rodriguez on a recent trip to New York. Unfortunately, Bristol wasn't the daughter with Sarah Palin at the time; 14-year-old Willow was. Sarah Palin has since called David Letterman perverted and sexist for talking about the statutory rape of her 14-year-year old daughter, but is she taking her outrage just a little too far?

The answer is: of course she is. This is the most press Sarah Palin has seen in a long time, and while some parents would want to put this whole ordeal behind them and shift the focus back away from their kids by avoiding the spotlight, Sarah Palin is milking it for all it is worth, dragging her children right back into the spotlight along with her and making sure they stay there as long as possible. So is David Letterman the only one in the wrong here, or is Sarah Palin also in the wrong for using this bad joke as a way to remind the public that she exists?

Back when Sarah Palin was getting plenty of press, Jay Leno told a similar joke about the father of Bristol Palin's baby being John Edwards, according to 'The Huffington Post', and there was no such uproar from Palin then. And it annoys me that Sarah Palin thinks David Letterman owes an apology to all women for his comments; not too long ago musician Lady GaGa joked around about wanting to have a foursome with the Jonas Brothers, one of whom is underage, and no one attacked her for being perverted or promoting statutory rape. I don't see the father of the Jonas brothers on television demanding that Lady GaGa apologize to all men because her comments were offensive. And what about all of these radio hosts joking around about female teachers having sex with underage male students? These things are actually happening, not a hypothetical joke like David Letterman made, and no one is demanding that everyone making jokes about it apologize to all men for being offensive.

It's another example of the terrible double standard that exists when it comes to sexism, and Sarah Palin is doing women no favors by demanding that David Letterman apologize to all of us. If a man did the same thing, people would laugh at him. But I know Sarah Palin is not going to let this go anytime soon, so if she wants to really stay in the spotlight, I'd recommend she do this: wage a fight against what is slowly becoming a big problem in our society, reverse discrimination against young men. After all, a young man has been the voice of reason here; the young father of Bristol Palin's baby, Levi Johnston, was asked by Mario Lopez if thought David Letterman had crossed the line, and he answered that he thought he'd crossed the line a little bit, but that David Letterman was a comedian; that's what he does.

It's the simple truth spoken by a simple kind of man, and it's a shame that Sarah Palin doesn't have the reasoning skills of her would-be son-in-law.
