The story behind this one on one fighting game released on the playstation 3 and xbox 360 revolves around a magical sword which has, as a result of all of the bloodshed and suffering that it has been involved in through the years, developed a soul of utter evil which threatens to do great harm. The quest that your character must go on is to fight your way through to get this magical sword so that you can destroy it and put an end to the evil. The story is actually quite uninspiring, and they definitely could have put more effort and imagination into developing it, but when you get past that into the game itself it has many redeeming features.

The graphics in this fourth game in the series are really excellent, including scenery which interacts well with the characters, such as breaking floor boards. There is also a nice soundtrack here, which really adds to the overall quality of the game.

All of the old characters that fans will be familiar with are back for another outing, and although each one feels the same to play and had their same signature moves, there are enough new moves with each one to keep it fresh. The costumes are a bit over done though.

Like the others before it this is an easy game to learn, so you can pick it up and have fun right from the start, but by the same token it can sometimes seem like you do just as well by randomly bashing the buttons as you would by learning all the combos and special moves.

The unique things about this game are the weapons - most games of this type are primarily hand to hand martial arts fighting games, whereas this is definitely a martial arts weapons fighting game. Another thing is the ring outs, which mean that you can win a bout by knocking your opponent out of the fighting area as well as by beating their life down to 0.

Like all other games of this type you can play arcade or multiplayer mode, and you can connect over the internet to play tournaments with your friends.

Overal I would definitely recommend it, but perhaps not as enthusiatically as some of the other fighting games that are out their, such as that other number four - Street Fighter 4.
