How many? How many bridges
have you burnt
in your day?
How many? How many
of the bridges burnt
are burnt
unintentionally?
How many? How many
of the bridges burnt
are burnt
intentionally?
How many? How many
of the bridges burnt
are burnt
unintentionally
intentionally?
If a man burns one bridge,
will he be predisposed
to burn another?
And if burning
one bridge leads to two,
does two make four? Making
eight making sixteen making
thirty-two into
infinity?
And does bridge burning lead
to an existence
of ends
alone?
And is burning bridges really
an end? Or nothing
but the new beginning
many prefer to believe?
How many? How many souls
do we drive
from our hearts,
our lives?
How many? How many times
have we believed to completely
we deserved the scrapings
found below the bottom
of the barrel?
How many? How many times
must we emulate
behaviors which could end
only one way?
How many? How many times
have we made pasts prophetic;
cyclical behaviors foretelling futures
before we even know
their possibilities?
And when they end,
why
are we surprised?
How many? How many
have scar tissue
on their souls?
How many? How many souls
have felt the burn
of life's fire - are The Ones
burning bridges -
The Ones who have felt
the flames and continue
to feel,
to care,
to love
despite
themselves?
How many? How many of these souls
must I burn before I learn?
How many? How many of these souls
are my past prophetic?
These souls
are the souls
I love.
