SouljaBoyTellEm Early Album Review

Can the Dance King Crank Out Another Hit Album?

The Reviewer
Soulja Boy Tell'Em hit the music industry by storm in 2007 which his ubiquitous first single Crank That (Soulja Boy). The song hit the world by storm and had millions of people around the world Cranking That Soulja Boy. Now Soulja Boy Tell'Em is back with his follow up effort iSouljaBoyTellEm. Will iSouljaBoyTellEm be an even greater success than SouljaBoyTellEm.com?

The first single off of iSouljaBoyTellEm is Birdwalk. The song seems like a blatant attempt to copy the success of Crank That (Soulja Boy). However, the song just does not have the same charm or innocence that was found on that monster hit single.

The second single is the Polow Da Don produced Yamaha Mama featuring Sean Kingston. The song is probably the strongest track on the album. The song will make millions of tweens and teenagers heart's swoon from the track. The chorus is catchy and the song just works extremely well.

Turn My Swag On is one of the better tracks on the album. The song is able to recapture some of the charm and magic of Soulja Boy Tell'Em's first album.

Kiss Me Thru The Phone features young R&B crooner Sammie. The song like Yamaha Mama works well and is sure to appeal to the female audience. The song is probably the second strongest track on the album.

Gucci Mane and Shawty-Lo team with Soulja Boy Tell'Em on Gucci Bandana. The track is a typical posse track however the piano rift on the strong just distracts from the verses almost completely.

Eazy is another interesting concept. The song showcases some growth from Soulja Boy Tell'Em as an artist and the chorus is extremely catchy.

Soulja Boy Tell'Em is paired with Yo Gotti and Gucci Mane on Shoppin' Spree. The track is stronger than Gucci Bandana as the production is strong and adds to the track.

Booty Got Swag (Donk Part 2) is a follow up to Donk which was featured on SouljaBoyTellEm.com. The track features a very similar beat to the original.

Wit My Yums On is a reference to Soulja Boy Tell'Em's deal with Yum sneaker line. The track seems like a blatant advertisement for the company.

Hey You There sounds like a mockery of 1980's hip hop popularized by Run DMC and LL Cool J.

Go Head featuring Juney Boondata is an almost annoying track. The song features some of the worst lyrics ever delivered.

iSouljaBoyTellEm is what you expect from Soulja Boy Tell'Em as a young artist. There is some growth and a few good songs; however that cannot make up for the lack of lyrical ability. Overall iSouljaBoyTellEm gets 7 out of 10. If you are a fan of Soulja Boy Tell'Em make sure you pick up iSouljaBoyTellEm when it is available in stores on December 16th.
