If you live in an apartment, you can enjoy the freedom of being able to move at will and the joy of calling someone else for expensive repairs. On the other hand, you also have to deal with noise. Either someone will be complaining about your noise, or someone will be driving you crazy with theirs. These soundproofing tips will help you live peacefully among alongside your neighbors.
Put down carpet in our apartment. Wood floors are notorious for amplifying noise to your downstairs neighbors. You can lessen dampen this by using area rugs being sure to put a pad made of vinyl foam composite under the rugs. Even if you have wall to wall carpet, chances are it is thin, apartment grade carpet. Put area rugs on top of your wall to wall carpet.
Fully furnish your apartment. The more furniture you have in your apartment, the less sound will travel. Don't leave your apartment empty. Furnish it with upholstered furniture, beds, dressers and cabinets. Decorate your walls as well. Tapestries, or decorative carpets, can be hung on your walls, using the appropriate hardware. This will absorb a great deal of noise and add a european flair to your home. Another option is to purchase decorative acoustic tiles. These acoustic tiles are not exactly cheap, but they are an investment in both your apartment and your future home. They come in many decorative choices and look like paintings or prints on the wall; not old ugly acoustic tiles. You can even upload your own image to have printed on the acoustic tiles.
Use books to soundproof your apartment home. Just line the walls where the most noise comes through with several bookshelves, and fill those shelves with books and decorative items. This is as effective (if not more) as installing a soundproof wall, which you don't want to do if you don't own the place.
