With cold and flu season, fast approaching along with winter it is time to make those delicious homemade soups to heal us and make us feel good. There is nothing better than coming home on a cold winter day and having hot soup waiting for you.

I remember coming home as a child, my mom would be making homemade soup. It always smelled so good in the house. Homemade soups were a part of growing up in our household; they became a comfort food to me.

Homemade soups are easy to do, require fewer ingredients then you might think and with some quick tips, you can make your own comfort food soups. Possibly a hearty bowl of chicken noodle soup is just what you need to bring some comfort to your soul.

The following soups are fast versions of comfort foods we all enjoy; they are simple enough for the children to make, with your help of course.

Easy potato soup

Select and wash five or six potatoes, chop them into smaller pieces. Boil the potatoes in a pan of water, until they are done. Reserve some of the water that you cooked the potatoes in, as it will become your soup base. Then mash the potatoes into smaller pieces while they are still in the pan. Add milk and use boxed mashed potatoes to thicken up your potato soup. You season this potato soup with garlic, salt, and pepper. You can easily add cooked bacon, corn, or cheese to change the flavor of your potato soup. Serve your potato soup it with crackers or crusty bread.

Easy Chicken Noodle soup.

Open a large can of chicken broth, and put it in a large pan. Now get some cooked chicken, tear it into smaller pieces, and add it to the chicken broth. Add some garlic, chopped onions, celery, and frozen carrots as it is heating up. Bring the chicken soup to a nice rolling boil, slowly. When your broth begins to boil, drop in egg noodles and this will create a quick and easy chicken noodle soup.

Easy Chicken Potato Soup.

Grab some cooked seasoned chicken from the deli. Remove the bones the chicken and put it in a pan of chicken broth. Into this pan, we are going to add small new potatoes, chopped onion, and 1 bag of frozen mixed vegetables.

Creamy Broccoli Potato Cheese Soup

This one again is easy. Select and wash five or six potatoes, chop them into smaller pieces. Boil the potatoes in a pan of water, until they are done. Reserve some of the water that you cooked the potatoes in, as it will become your soup base. Then mash the potatoes into smaller pieces while they are still in the pan. Add in one package of cooked broccoli and half a cup of cheese to the soup. Add some mashed potato flakes to thicken your soup and enjoy it with a piece of crusty bread.

A soup is defined as a broth, which has meat or potatoes, and of course vegetables. It is served in a bowl and enjoyed all over the world and has been for decades. A good hearty bowl of soup with crusty bread is a perfect comfort food.
