I have a confession to make. I absolutely love books. In fact, I've had a hard time weening myself from buying more when I find a great deal. With that being said, I absolutely love my Droid 2 because I'm able to access so many free books. While you may know of a few apps, there are actually numerous sources for free books for your Android device. Here are just a few of my favorite sources.
Kindle App
Without a doubt, the number one place to get free books for an Android device is from the Amazon Kindle App. I have been able to grab over 500 free books from Amazon. The best part is these aren't just classics. Amazon often offers free books for short periods and this is a wonderful way to find new indie authors. Check the top 100 free books at least a couple times a week and you're bound to quickly load your Android device with hundreds of ebooks in a matter of months.
Nook App
Okay, so this is Amazon's biggest rival. The Nook App isn't a favorite of mine, but is still a great place to find free books. The Nook offers a smaller selection of freebies, but I have managed to find a few. The biggest problem I've faced is that the Kindle App is much easier to use. However, it pays to have all the free sources to offer the largest selection.
Android Marketplace
If you're looking for classics, you can easily find them in the Android Marketplace. There you'll find everything from Little Women to Frankenstein - all for free. Upon entering the Marketplace, click "Books" and then scroll to the right to get a list of the top 100 free books. No, these aren't new bestsellers, but they'll do in a pinch or when your child needs a book for a report.
Wattpad App
Last, but certainly not least, Wattpad is a website that allows you to read thousands of free novels, stories, poems and fan fiction. What's the best part? There's an app for Android devices. This means you can access over 100,000 pieces of original content while sitting in the waiting room or while kicked back on the couch. Either way, this is a must have if you love indie authors.
The days of heading to the library are slowly coming to an end. With the ability to access thousands of books for free on your Android device, you'll begin to wonder how you ever lived without it.
