Sources of the Quran: The Style of the Quran VS. Muhammad's Own Style

Mr. firdaus
Islam believes that Quran is the word of God. As everyone knows, there is a world of difference between the style of the Quran and Muhammad's own style. Comparing Muhammad's sayings compiled in the books with the Quran, differences in every respect, style, subject matter are immediately evident. The sayings of Muhammad's are conversational, expository, didactic and oratorical of a kind the Arabs were already familiar with. By contrast, the style of the Quran is quite unlike any then known to the Arabs.

Second, the impression made upon the reader. Reading the books of Muhammad's saying, one feels oneself in the presence of a mere human being, full of humility and dread. The also felt a sense of his own weakness before God. With the Quran, the reader of the verses experiences the divine Presence of God, the creator of all things in His might, justice, wisdom and mercy. A mercy has nothing of weakness in it, even where mercy is displayed. Were the Quran of Muhammad's own making, its style would match that of his saying. For is it not a commonplace of literary criticism that one person that one person cannot have two styles, each of radically different nature?

The Prophet never went to school or took a teacher. He never studied under a master of any kind. Is it reasonable to suppose that such man could have conceived this wondrous body of law? All embracing and free from any inconsistency, its greatness acknowledged far and wide by Muslim and non Muslim alike, recognized, moreover as a major source of European Law? How could an illiterate have forged the Quran with all its uniqueness of style and its social, economic, political and religious legislation?

The view of the universe, life, thought, human transactions, war, marriage, worship, business and so on embodied in the Quran is perfect. All these are inclusive and symmetrical. Had all this come from Muhammad? It would no longer be possible to treat him as a mortal being. For even a whole bevy of comities, their members combining international culture with deep specialist knowledge, would experience the utmost difficulty in creating works. They learned studies and research findings were placed at their disposal even has to face lengthy a period of time. However, profound the genius and wide his education could be capable of devising such solutions to any one of the problems that habitually confront mankind

Symmetrical? In what way are Muslim relations between the sexes 'symmetrical'? Sura 4:34 'Men have authority over women because Allah has made the one superior to the other.'
